  1. So, which one of you knows HTML and CSS? Any friends or friends of friends who know? That would be needed in order to implement that. I'd also like to see it implemented, but it would take some coding. I could fumble through it for weeks and weeks, learning as I go, I'm fairly good with LUA and Java at this point but I know only the basics of CSS and HTML and this is at least an intermediate coding project. Any takers?
  2. VG Website Forum Rank is merely for entertainment purposes, and does not denote seniority with regards to privileges or responsibility within Clubs or among VG Clan Members (full details for community progression: VG Advancement)
  3. I was thinking this might look better for the top portion: Rules Enforcement: Standard Operating Procedure If you violate our rules expect to be punished. The rules below are enforced by our admin team who adhere to strict guidelines. If you feel you have been punished unfairly by one of our server admins, or wish to report a player, post here: Complaints/Report Disruptive Players When no PR Admins are online or in the TS3 Channels, use the !R report command in game. If you need to make a private report, message TEDF, MelonMuncher, SemlerPDX, or BLuDKLoT Project Reality Unban Requests go here: PR Unban Requests (Start a New Topic - do not reply to other unban threads) (and then this bit at the very bottom after the last rule) Project Reality Unban Requests go here: PR Unban Requests (Start a New Topic - do not reply to other unban threads) If you would like to Appeal your Ban, please provide the following information: 1. Banned Username 2. When did this happen? 3. Reason you were banned 4. Describe the events leading up to your ban ( how did this occur and why? ) 5. Personal Statement ( Why should we unban you? ) As a courtesy we look into all unban requests. The nature of the offense and the information you provide in your personal statement will determine the final outcome of your Appeal. (the admin who banned you must also agree to the terms) We try to resolve all bans within 72 hours of the Appeal. All unbanned individuals will be placed on a watch list for 30 days. If any further issues occur during this time, your Ban will be reinstated and any future appeals will be denied...permanently.
  4. Done - but it could look better - I feel like I ruined the very nice looking rules list by adding that to the top the way I did. Any ideas to make it look better, or better wording, or maybe whether it should be move to the bottom of the list... or maybe if we should just jot down the Appeals format at the bottom instead of linking people to it AND the unban requests forum... feel free to change it or provide input. Also, about the end bit, "False Allegations", I feel it needs to be expanded in a small way. It comes up very rarely, but I've seen it happen a handful of times over the years, and it just did again: A player bypasses our system, after a short period of time has passed (often following a denied ban appeal) someone will misrepresent themselves as someone else or use certain subversive means to minimize or outright mis-tell the events leading to their ban and if not enough documentation is found or research performed by Admins, a simple unban can be issued to minor and major violators who have indeed been given a "permanent ban". It is rare, but we cannot allow any incident where a previously denied unban appeal is not referenced or know in this type of "second appeal" - though they do fly under the radar once in awhile. "Going to Mom cuz she will say 'Yes' after you already got a 'No' from Dad" All VG Clan Members who are PR Admins must check the website periodically, and preferably as often as necessary, to watch for posts in the VG Admin section of the forum as well as PR info and unban requests that may date back some time or even those that already have been addressed - things drop off the Top 5 on the front page fast, you must check the forum topics themselves from time to time. Obviously, non-VG PR Admins need to be checking the PR forum sections often as well. **Also note that when we hand out a permanent ban to a player on the PR server, in some cases it is not automatically a ban from all of our servers until that becomes necessary - I can't stress it enough that this system has rarely been abused and we do not and should not automatically add that person's name, IP and UID's to our site, TS3, or other game server's banlists for every offense unless needed or until we have to - BUT such a player using our other servers is certainly on a permanent probation for all purposes. This means that any questionable actions or immature behaviors on any of these other servers will get them more attention, leading to further bans up to and including a FULL and permanent ban from the site, TS3, and every server we have a banlist for. ***obviously this is not applicable to, for example, the racist or the mass teamkiller or the intentional griefer - but only to the lesser offenders who became banned permanently for an action or behavior. Between the Regular Player and the Intentional Teamkiller is the grey area where the Nuisance Player exists - and they make it difficult for players to enjoy a mature teamwork based game without disruptions. A player who has been banned from one of our servers permanently who begins to make a proper name for themselves as a Regular player on OTHER servers DOES NOT lower or diminish their current standing on the server where they were permanently banned from, nor does a person who slides under the radar with a second unban appeal that doesn't take into account the previously denied one. This is because in order to remain fair and ethical to all players, VG Admins involved in Rules Enforcement must not hand out special treatment, unilateral pardons or blind forgiveness irrespective of prior decisions and lacking input from any admins involved in those decisions. A person who receives an unban from a 'permanent ban' status is especially subject to a subsequent permanent probation, they can and should be banned again if they exhibit any continued immature behaviors, actions, or disruptions on our servers. We are seeking a mature, friendly, and disruption free gaming environment, and while age is not a factor that is regularly enforced here, we don't need immature kids on our servers - anyone else who handles themselves in a kind and mature manner is welcome, even if they were 12 years old, for example. Most all of us are familiar with the type of lazy, insincere, and disrespectful unban requests that come around, and also those that are merely written by someone with a language barrier or genuine misunderstanding/naivety -- the first group often shows their true rotten colors after a few questions or interactions with them in their unban posts, just like the second group demonstrates the truth (or lack thereof) in their mistake or action on the server after a little back and forth, but at all times, there will be certain people who willfully attempt to misrepresent themselves or the facts to a degree that is outright contemptuous of the rules. If a person is deserving of a second look at their unban request, to be fair to all people who are banned, Admins have a responsibility to reference and include all previous posts, logs, or other Admins previously involved, and to make notice if any of these things were missing or unavailable -- not that the rights of fairness to all the people we've had to ban seems to matter so much at first glance, but it truly is the heart of fairness and our goal to be honorable to our community and each other as well. If someone, after a period of time, has genuinely matured and changed, and decides to attempt to appeal their ban once again with respect and a proper ownership of their words and actions, it will be open to the discussion of Admins, but including involved Admins and quoted references to all previous discussions. So, I've added Misrepresentation to the False Allegations section at the bottom, open to edits or changes to the details: False Allegations & Misrepresentation (Lying) If you lie to get another player kicked or banned you will be banned instead. If you misrepresent yourself as someone else or use any type of subversive means to present the facts or minimize to a large degree the events leading to a ban you are appealing, you will be banned from all VG servers.
  5. I've changed the wording on this line from Assets & Vehicles, from the Armor section. Nit picky, I know, but "fire support" refers to indirect fire such as cannons or artillery used to support infantry, and the APC, IFV and AAVP are "direct fire" vehicles which attack in support of infantry while having a direct line of sight to the opposition. changed to:
  6. First weekend of Fall had two of the last hot sunny days of the Summer - I went up to Long Beach, Washington to hang out with my cousin. It's about a 3 hour drive from Portland.
Nothin like seeing the sun set on the Pacific Ocean. Sunday night's was beautiful.
Got some fresh salt water taffy to share with my fellow landlubbers back home.
    Good times!

      looks pretty relaxing!

  7. Thanks for the report. It's been restarted. I've decided to roll back the config change test. Should be back to it's normal stability.
  8. So, one of our friends, one of our peers here at VG asks for some pointers and advice on something that is difficult, and you want to contribute to the discussion by telling him that it appears to you that he has no real respect for veterans or PTSD, and that he doesn't know what he is talking about (in his report of his friends behavior, which is all he seemed to write about, that, and his question about what he should do to help his friend...) because he asked his friends here as opposed to some forum somewhere he is unfamiliar with? Looks like he found a few people who've actually dealt with it personally, and some people in a profession that puts them in a position to offer very sound advice. I find the replies to his post very helpful, sounds like he's got some friends here (and some people he may not even know yet like BCO) who are happy to point him in the right direction and encourage him to help his friend out as he is able. I've always appreciated the fact that the VG Community is more than just a gaming forum, more than random gamers mashing buttons, and more of an extended group of friends, and I'm sure Jersans does as well after hearing the support of his peers in the above posts. Posts even including a reply from a VG guy who never posts on the forums, but took the time to show some support and provide some words for this particular thread, so much is his support for those dealing with PTSD. But that's just IMO, I guess, cuz we all have different opinions about whether we should help each other out all supportive like, or whether we should call each other out for not knowing what they are talking about like some kind of dick. I guess I just fall into the former category. Pardon my disdain and my unhelpful post in this thread. P.S. I cannot believe this needs to be said, but... VG will decide what is an appropriate subject of discussion on the VG Community forums, thank you.
  9. Okay, we'll try it. I've restarted the server campaign to Day 1, and altered the Day 1 ("new tankers by brain") save file. I've altered the server config to turn g_bServerHostAll = 1 to g_bServerHostAll = 0 and the server is now running from a 3D cockpit. I can get into the server a number of ways, but using TeamViewer for example, the Task Manager shows BMS using around 20% CPU on the ramp in the cold cockpit but TeamViewer.exe is spiking the CPU to near 99% (using 55% +/- of the CPU) -- of course, logging out of TV and leaving the session should make it stable, as evidenced by the CPU usage track (set to slow update) in Task Manager. I'll keep an eye on it, but even logging in to look at it could spike the CPU, so I will be doing so sparingly. I'll check it this afternoon, and again in the evening. Please keep a close eye on performance and issues while we test this, and report back here with anything (even seemingly inconsequential events) so we can review the data and make an evaluation of this test. **I've also fixed the Tanker issue from before -- all 'Player Support Tanker Squadrons' no longer have HQ fragging, specifically the 908th. Also, a small note - I thought 908th is out of Choongwon but I see it from Kadena as if it resides there. Confusing, but a non-issue.
  10. We found that Renainn had been near someone's Cursed Earth mob farm, one that had a bug (literally) and caused him to crash. We (by which I mean Double_13) fixed it by finding this location and clearing the mobs near Renainn's player character. If you are having the same issue, we need to find out where you are in the world, and to address the issue near where you are spawning to fix it. Please let us know approximately where you are or where you were last in the game
  11. Renainn's (aka davestrike's) brother, hasn't been around for a long while... We've been playing on the Minecraft Server lately. Tags on by mistake... @Double_13 thanks @LionClaw check the VG Admin section: http://veterans-gaming.com/index.php?/forums/topic/5417-new-dedicated-server/&page=3
  12. Been having quite a bit of fun on the VG Minecraft server with Renainn(davestrike) and his brother LionClaw, KiwiBob, Airbats, Double13, and Jaki the past few days...  Good times! :D

It's not a game for everyone - a bit cartoon-y and old school looking graphics, and a steep learning curve...

We mostly just build large models - of course our bases have functional working parts inside, machines, storage, etc.
           - but we build our bases to get the stuff we need to build cool things (all blocky, but fun to make it look good with just blocks).  I made a helmet that has nightvision, so there's cool things you can make if you find the items to make them.  We play with 164 different mods, not the average kid's Minecraft, for sure ;)

Double_13 built a static model (doesn't move) of the Battleship Bismark -- pretty impressive given the blocky parts we have to work with -- I'll let him get his own screenshots up, but here's a pic off the starboard bow:

  13. Cool man... (a bit of constructive criticism, if you don't mind: the intro was a bit frantic, with screenshots changing so fast I thought I was about to have a seizure - if it was only a few seconds and a little faster, it might be better, but it kept going for awhile, and it distracted me from the Title's - made it hard to focus on them and read them) Very awesome BMS action, man! Thanks for sharing!!
  14. Yea, that's the issue... Debrief screen is not correctly showing units that the player destroyed as "destroyed", merely "damaged". I believe this may be a core issue inside BMS itself, I've read about this problem on more than one server... It's not just us. I also looked into all the server config variables when I set up the server, and afaik the settings are as good as they can get. It's far better for the server plane to sit in the 2D map debriefing screen than to sit on the tarmac in a cold aircraft - far less rubber-banding and other lag issues. For large flights with many pilots in different countries, on different continents, I suggest upping the max player bandwidth to 2048 instead of 1024, but truly we have not done any definitive testing on this - seems correct on paper, though.
  15. but seriously, I was wondering this myself... Official Implementation would require a patch update for all of PR, if they have any patches in the works, this one could be part of that... if not, we have to host files for people to download. I doubt that BF2 supports it, but we do have the ability to enable a FastDL service through TCAdmin, we are looking into it so we can push a custom map pack for Insurgency (standalone) to allow for more than 8 players per game -- if this same system can be used for PR, let me know. Here is a documentation link about TCAdmin FastDL: http://help.tcadmin.com/Fast_Downloads
  16. Each individual map should be a micro-transaction DLC...
  17. Now, there's something I can surely do.... Done. Welcome, [R-Dev] Melon Muncher, thank you for your Code Fu!
  18. lol -- **thread from July.... =VG= BrakeGamer is the guy from Croatia who's working with the Insurgency (standalone) server; he's also a PR admin.
  19. The trade-off to forcing the host to stay in 3d cockpit would be extreme de-sync with other players and AI aircraft, as described by Brain. I'm afraid we do not have the most powerful server out there, and we have to deal with what we have. The way we have it set up now is the best that we can do as far as we know. We are definitely open to suggestions and fixes that will improve this, but we have done a bit of testing on this, and the server runs it's best after launching by returning the host to the 2D debrief screen prior to it's scheduled takeoff time. The "units only damaged in debrief" is a known issue, and it is known that the units are truly destroyed as shown by the 2D map after a mission. Brain mentioned a ownership variable but I it does not currently exist in the config file - I've had to add variables before that did not exist, but without the syntax of this var, I cannot add it. If you find anything, let me know, we'd be happy to test something that might improve the server. I've attached the VG BMS server config file if anyone wants to review it for options that may help. falcon bms.cfg
