That would be a deal breaker for me as well. I cannot stand the idea of enemies respawning at the squad's rear. This is not just unrealistic, but removes any and all tactical elements and can turn any game mode into a big, crappy Team Deathmatch game.

I've got a few FRAPS/Vegas and Arma video settings tips for you, Clippie, seeing as how we have such very similar systems. Like Savage said, a real key to success is to have the "capture" folder on a different hard drive than your OS/Programs drive. If size is a problem, just keep 20-30 GB free on your "capture" drive and transfer the files after each session to your OS/Programs drive to free up more space for recording. You have an awesome sound card, so feel free to set sound capture settings to the highest (multi-channel, etc.). I set my record external input (microphone) to only capture when I press TS3 PTT button as most of us use that in game for coms, and you can turn on "mic clicks" on you and others giving it an awesome sound. For video, unless you have high hopes of true HD, you can still get good ArmA videos recording at 30-45FPS. I did some testing myself and found I can't get a final video in vegas to look any different when I recorded at 60FPS or 30FPS. My final products are always 30FPS after rendering, though I don't have true HD capabilities. I force lossless RGB and it doesn't seem to hurt system speed. I found excellent improvement when I set my Graphics driver settings to have AA and Anisotropic Filtering to "application-controlled" (ATI, not sure about NVidia settings). I also got better FPS when I set Arma in game video settings to "Video RAM = Default" , though I have 1GB DDR5. Odd, but helps. When I adjust video settings in game, the 4 that matter for my FPS the most are Texture Detail; Terrain Detail; Objects Detail; & Shadow Quality. If your video is gonna take place mostly in one AO, on foot, try setting view distance for the shoot to under 2000m. If you're flying for the video, try turning off/down shadows and increasing view distance to (your) max. Also, set your FPS monitor to only update once a second instead of realtime. Most the default FRAPS command buttons are F commands, and Arma uses those. I recommend changing it for cleaner shots. I use PrintScreen, Scroll Lock, Pause/Break, and NumLock. I can't get into my vegas "render settings" and thought I made a post about it, but it's important, too. If you have good source video, but render it wrong, it'll still be crap. If you start with a crap source video, vegas won't improve it any. Can't polish a turd... Good luck!

I'll volunteer to (help) make the promo videos and teasers; and help promote it on the web. Cool idea!!

I'd have to fire her back up again to get that info. That "CPU Failure" thing was a bit startling, but I'm sure I could try to get a boot past it, but...Is that really advisable? I'll blow out all the dust and crap, and give it another go if it's advisable. Was thinking I may need to replace the CPU and MB; they are cheap now but I have little money right now... Can't yank the OS drive and examine externally....it's in RAID. Thanks for the help!

I've been troubleshooting the frequent blue screen's of death I've been getting, and thought I was onto something when I disconnected a few unused internal parts from the power supply, and unplugged other items on the same ciruit. Later that day, I began pushing it again; connected the powered 2.1 speakers w/subwoofer, and tried to run my ATI w/ it's overclock enabled. Later that day, I began to get the BSOD's again. I shut it down for the day. BSOD ID is Kernal_Power; Event 41; Type 2; System shut down (don't have any other details anymore) This morning, I hit the power button, and first screen says: "CPU Failure. System will now shut down in 5 seconds to prevent damage" I opened her up, and found nothing physically wrong, aside from a thin layer of fine dust on everything. Any suggestions or experiences similar may be helpful. The oldest components are (same age) the MB/CPU and RAM. All other parts were new in box this past spring. System Specs are under my xfire (click box below). Will be AFK till I get this fixed, no more pushing this beast. Will check back here on my laptop often. !cheers

See you around, bro! Have fun!

Awesome pics Terremer! Good solo, too. That's hard when no one else is there. !2cool

I also could care less about prettiness. I think everything looks great now (if you can get the textures to load fast enough, they're great). Fix all other gameplay problems before moving on to better graphics. =VG= Beast wrote ... Ooo! Know what'd be reeeally groovy? A ghillie suit that uses physics in the engine to have dynamic jute and foliage, swaying in the breeze or when you move! Whoop! yea, or the ability to veg out your suit based on local grasses you may be crossing.

Roger that. Image changed for GT, and uploaded. Takes several days for approval. 1600x900 270kb .jpg (they will crop it's sides for a 4:9 ratio, tho...)

Seriously have no concept or idea what Twitter is. I read a wiki i think, saw that for a business, it can help them connect on a personal level with their consumers...like a big ass free PR (public relations) tool. So, if I got this right, if I twit things at people, they post on their "wall" like facebook (or more correctly, they and their followers see it, and then followers of followers see it)? and if I twit something myself it's on "my twitter" and my followers see it, and their followers as well? Like a big viral thing, correct? Should I twit crap off the top of my head? Or perhaps stuff I see on VG to "spread the word" of us? And do people often copy other's twit's and paste/twit it themselves?

=VG= Jarema LAN_WROTE ... Semler your picture's size is almost 2Mbs and the max is 450Kbs.... !memo !drag !iloveyou Yes I know, it's raw from FRAPS. It is that way so you can see the pic I like in full detail. Needs to lose >75% via resize in order to fit GT. Why go through the trouble yet, just post pics and we'll resize the one that's best for GT. I put up some of the original Insurgency GT images back in Spring. Example(@405kb): (just noticed a banned name on the INS screenie, too...lol)
-
Looks like Jarema had his post-processing on a mid to high level. Great for screenshots, but not so great for running around in the shit (IMO). Too damn blurry when you move. Still, that one is going into my Arma desktop background mix. Beautiful! (By the way, not my screenshot of the cows - that was ridDle in the A-10; got the imageshack link from him.)
-
I like this one. Shows off some of the vehicular changes on our Domi. I have used PicResize.com and ShrinkPictures.com to resize pics for GameTracker and other picky sites, and they work well, no stupid pop-ups or streaming video ads that I remember.

ArmA 2 =VG= Domination: Changes, Additions, and Ideas
=VG= SemlerPDX replied to =VG= SemlerPDX's topic in Scripting/Editing
Lol...geez. Long post (coming from a long poster !sarc )!! Lets try to address all these issues; gonna have to break it up individually: =VG= Raptor902 LAN_WROTE ... please dont make your domi into a realism server, it ruins playablilty, and think of the pubbers, cause without them, domi is nothing, like locking the a-10, yes, if an admin is in the server it can be locked, but think, if i dont have admin, i join the domi and no one else is in there and i want to clear an AO, but i dont want to make a ton of trips with a heli with hydras, common sense says A-10, because it has the mavericks and a lot of gun, but oh no its locked. And i dont have admin to unlock it... The discussion about changing the current timed lock feature continues, and we've tested a few scenarios already. It is not going to change one way or the other to accomodate the rare instance of a public player being the only person in the server and his ability to go RAMBO the CAS without a forward observer just because he isn't "technically breaking the rules" being that the server's empty. Post #1 describes the stance we've taken on realism and playability, and I wasn't aware that any of these proposed additions detracted from or killed playability by adding realism. We're not trying to lock them all up, either, but certainly the focus isn't on the scenario of one person by themselves all the time in the server, having a hard time 'cause the A-10 is the only way they know how to destroy the various enemy vehicles in the AO. We have not bypassed any locking features yet, only in alpha testing. The MLRS will remain locked. i have been feeling more and more that those of you editing this mission have stopped thinking of the public players, and focused more and more on what YOU want to do, what YOU want to play. please dont forget we want to have a fun server for the PUBLIC, while still keeping it teamplay oriented. but it HAS to be played for the public, especially when no admins are around. it needs to have the ability to manage itself, like the insurgency, and PRBF2 servers, keep it playable, use the honor system, abuse the system and lose the privleges. just my 2cents A server manage itself? Honor system? Have you seen the ban lists, bro? Lol...but seriously, this concerns me, man. In what way have we stopped thinking of the public and where are we focusing on what we want to do and what we want to play, Raptor? Specifically, please tell us. This is important. If we've derailed, we need to get back on track, as this is our goal at the heart as well. This post and these ideas have been given a few accolades for the additions planned and this is the first I have heard of anything like this regarding these revisions. now i leave and go play somewhere else, because i cant play the server. or say it is unlocked, but you changed the load out so now the a-10 is useless with out a lazer (eg. poffs idea of removing mavericks.) now they want to use the a-10 cause they are by themselves, but its useless with out a laser. The A-10 is and continues to be the standard version on the mission, not all GBU's. The discussion is ongoing, and input is helpful. The HUD itself has a CCIP pipper, for accurate manual release, though like the warthog cannon, requires a little effort to use in that there's no target locking - that in no way makes the GBU variant useless to RAMBO. Personally on this issue, I'll fly either one - the only reason I'm partial to the original is it's AA capabilities. See my point, i like the idea of realism, but keep playability first, and if you change the load out of an a-10, leave access to the default a-10. yes they can be locked when an admin is on, but to keep playability for pubbers, unlocked when an admin is not on, and set-up remote unlock because, it is too much work if your the only admin on to have to go back to base to unlock something. This mission is a work in progress, not all have been implemented. The only reason to lock an a-10 or harrier would be if we didn't use the 10 minute auto-kick time. There's no need to micro-manage an all the ways you just described, and this remote locking and unlocking isn't exactly at the top of the priorities list. We have rules posted, and we're all admins. Keep an eye on the players joining the server, encourage teamwork; if they mess up, warn/kick/ban. -
ArmA 2 =VG= Domination: Changes, Additions, and Ideas
=VG= SemlerPDX replied to =VG= SemlerPDX's topic in Scripting/Editing
Two issues. Major issues: Yes, you should make the MLRS the only asset that begins locked, for the time being. First big issue: ACRE doesn't work. \ Second major issue: I (and several others) have ongoing problems with the "new" repair/rearm/refuel pads. Everything looks and plays awesome except for those 2 problems. By the way, in the default parameters, 5 things are set wrong. ACRE is one, I can remember, along with Delete Wrecks (still set at 60). -
TotalBoffin LAN_WROTE ... ... For those who don't have mics or aren't using them, I would urge you to get one and try it out! Yea, I can't believe that people would play such a slower paced, military simulator without a mic, but they do. Remember, mics or not, communication is still key. Use Side Channel Text Chat to include other members and try to find those who wish to roll as a team. The "squad lists" part of joining Insurgency cannot be changed to enforce squads with and without mics, but the more you play, the more regular names you will come to know, and you will try to get with those players. I suggest you try our Domination Server once we get it up and going. TS3 is the best way to connect with other players who exclusively use mics for communication. On Domi, you can add the ACRE mod and TS3 becomes your "local/direct coms" and in game PTT button cues up realistically functioning military radios. Also, we just pick the role we want, and once in game, use a menu to join/squad up with others. Good luck and have fun!!

It's not as personally directed at you as you may think. It's a simple forum activity logger, set to military rank systems for a fun theme. The PM was auto-generated by the system, so no one took time to directly send you what seems like a disrespectful PM. It's nothing to get twisted about; I at this time "outrank" a founding member of VG, and a few that have been here much longer than myself. It doesn't mean I "outrank" them in any sense here, nor does it mean my voice or opinion is greater than theirs. All forums have some system like this, and in no way does it change our opinion of you seeing less stars than before or a lower rank. Like dman said, it'll come back faster than before if you become active again on the website. When a LOA is anticipated, you have the option to contact BLuDKLoT and ask him to suspend the penalty system if it is something you enjoy working at. Thank you for serving our country; you are amongst friends and supporters here. s/f

Terremer LAN_WROTE ... ... i figured since arma was a little more expensive and graphically demanding it would weed out the 'casual' players... Me too. Don't worry. There are sooo many people who play arma who are team players. There are whole clans dedicated to it. (...ahem....) But it is true that in public servers you will always have to deal with the public element. From "run and gun" Rambos to "camping for the weekend" Snipers. But they will never get the true experience that ArmA affords by playing in such a way. And you better have your chips in line, cause this game likes multiple cores, several Gig's of ram, fast hard drives, and $200 graphics cards just to get 45FPS at a nice texture setting (and then you get into the shit with bombs going off.....you get the idea). I say it's worth any cost of any upgrade by far!!! Oddly though, FPS is less important in ArmA than it is in games with faster action and smaller "maps". Longer distances, less CQC than most gamers are used to. You'll find yourself covering 500m on foot regularly, sometimes uphill, but it's worth it!! We walked a mile tonite (1609m) to one particular AO from Strongpoint Savage. This evening, with a fireteam of 6, we approached a heavily armed AO at night, a couple soldiers with silenced weapons on point keeping our insert quiet, and began to recon the area. Poffadder was our forward observer for artillery, and 4 of us (coincidentally, each rocking a different anti-tank weapon - Dragon, AT-4, SMAW, NLAW) aquired different HVT's and priority targets of opportunity, ready to fire right as the salvo of steel rain sent the enemy to high alert. We caught them off guard and in less than 3 seconds took out 4 enemy vehicles and one of the enemy's D-30 artillery pits in a concert of coordination that continues to keep me interested through Arma's sometimes 3 minute long heli flights to the AO, or the much longer overland approach with armor. There are trade-offs when you jump from a realism mod for BF2 to ArmA, but as someone who played BF2:PR for hundreds of hours on VG, I gotta say that ArmA is so much worth any hastle, downtime, or bull you may at one point have to deal with. The enemies alone keep me from going back to BF2:PR. Seriously, these bots can think, and flank, and in ACE mod, they are a serious intelligence to be dealt with. Add realistic ballistics and TrackIR support, not to mention all the working military gear you can just grab out of an ammo box and go use....any variation you can imagine....and you have one gem of a wargame. Five Stars! Lucky Best Number 1 Military Video Game! (hope I don't sound as biased as I feel !sarc )

ArmA 2 =VG= Domination: Changes, Additions, and Ideas
=VG= SemlerPDX replied to =VG= SemlerPDX's topic in Scripting/Editing
Spent several hours this morning configuring the server to accept ShackTac HUD and ShackTac Movement. Runs now, (I have 6updater ST mods) but can't tell if movement mod working, and STHud doesn't show. Back later. Good luck! EDIT: Update - STHud and STMovement will not be available as client-side mods on our server; Everyone connecting would have to have the mod or be kicked from the server. -
JSRS and BlastCore Visuals for Next Level Gaming!
=VG= SemlerPDX replied to =VG= SemlerPDX's topic in Arma II
You guys crack me up. !sarc Just a wisper in the wind, but trying to work on adding ST Hud and ST Movement as client side options, if I can get a server key that actually allows an ST user in. Like Savage said, this is all made possible by Poffadders awsome scripting. !cheers Poff!
