Invasion 1944 version 2.61 for Arma 2: Combined Operations

Join the Invasion! After years of inaction, whispered rumors, and a growing silence from the East, the United States rallies to arms. The invasion of Europe has begun! Invasion 1944 v2.61, or i44 as we call it, is a total modification for Arma 2: Combined Operations and brings the European frontlines of World War 2 to this already impressive military simulator. Developed by the Invasion 1944 Team, i44 is the culmination of years of experience, and the very best addons the Arma community has to offer all rolled into a stunningly playable package. Players take on the roles of US soldiers such as the 1st & 29th Infantry Division, the 5th Ranger Battalion, the 82nd & 101st Parachute Infantry Regiment, as well as units from the British Infantry Airborne Division and British Commandos, and of course, many German units. Fifteen fully modeled WW2 era planes darken the skies in tense aerial combat including the Hawker Typhoon and Hawker Hurricane, the Spitfire, Mustang, Thunderbolt, and many more. The B-17 Flying Fortress has fully working gunner positions - I have yet to witness a landing as the ball gunner, and I hope the landing gear works when I do! With full head tracking and TrackIR support, dog fighting over active battlefields is like a dream come true for fighter plane enthusiasts. The AI units on both sides behave with a highly upgraded and reworked system, making for "alive" battlegrounds with friendly AI you can count on, and enemy AI you can truly fear! Not just one-shot headshot bots, either - the ballistics of Arma 2 have received new coding for i44, too. Over 30 period weapons fire accurately with correct recoil, reload animations, proper bullet drop and lethality ranges. Combined with the new in-game user interfaces for wounding, tactical movement animations, weapons resting for accuracy, bayonets, hand signals, improved weapons and character selection, and spawn point dialog boxes, and you have yourself what feels like an entirely new game! If you have ever put down Arma 2 because it seemed a bit too in-depth, or even complicated and harder to play - Invasion 1944 is a game modification you have got to try. Everything works the way you would imagine it should - that is the true beauty of this game mod. The tank turrets turn at appropriate speeds, the gunner has full ranging adjustments and ammunition variants, and all positions in the tanks are fully usable, down to the loader. We're talking over 50 World War 2 vehicles playable in over 30 pre-made multiplayer missions by the Invasion 1944 Team, and even more content made by the community! We've been online playing while this is happening to you - your ISP or whatever you wanna call it is messing with you. As "utility" companies, ISP's are just outside the realm of monopolies in that we are all stuck really with the choices we have in the US based on what neighborhood we move into. Personally, I wanna live a lot closer to the Cascade Mountains, like we talked about once "how screwed would you be in a city if disaster struck?" No way I could move out there until the internet is as good in rural areas as it is in major cities. I also will unplug if/when they actually force numerous bills on me, but not before. This is the next frontier, right before our eyes. I also have been here since the beginning, a generation almost a decade behind yours, witnessing this evolution. You are right to boycott bad software companies, this is a proven method in a capitalist industry. Tons of negative reviews will eventually kill or transform a company and get it out of the mainstream where true core values still exist. This is why I personally am behind Bohemia Interactive all the way. Along with many companies still out there, they are true to their medium, push their hardware limitations and ours, and put the opinions of their customers directly into their work. I don't view the internet as one single thing, and so to me, this is a battle to be fought on many fronts. Dedication and perserverance are required weapons. Hope is the suit of armor that must never be shed. The flow and direction of the industry could go down that slippery slope, or we as the internet community could get off our butts, and then sit down again of course, and organize our voice like we did with the SOPA Protest. That mattered - the world heard, and so did big government! What we need is a consumer protection policy to stop companies from making these ridiculously demanding Terms of Use agreements that are starting to plague the software and hardware industries. In the end, apathy of good men and women would kill the internet freedoms before big companies. Really, you should be mailing your post to your internet service provider, and tell them to go screw. At the very least, you should send them a flaming bag of dog crap - let them do a little packet sniffing if they want to... !spite

Free Tiberium Alliances EA is throwing us a bone as we wait for Command & Conquer: Generals 2 to come out in 2013. Phenomic Studios has entered an open beta phase with Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliance, a free-to-play MMO Strategy Game. The game has been reworked since the closed beta, and hopes to see a positive response from players as it begins the open beta. Players will go head to head as they manage resources and build an army. Hosts of new features set Tiberium Alliance apart from previous Command & Conquer titles. Martin Lohlein, Senior Producer of Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliance has big plans for the game now that it's in open beta, and had this to say in a recent interview: "We have a lot in store! We are constantly monitoring the game, listening to player feedback, making updates/improvements and introducing new features. I don?t want to give everything away at this point, but there a few exciting updates, planned for imminent release that I can tell you about. One of our most requested features has been an in-game chat feature. We are working on this right now and will offer a world chat, alliance and officer channels as well as whisper functionality." "Another community topic that is nearing completion", Martin continued, "is the rework of base movement. It will no longer cost command points and thus no longer get in the way of fighting. Overall it will get easier to move your base which again will make the alliance gameplay more dynamic." Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliance can be played in most any browser, and will soon be available on mobile devices. The game promises dynamic battles and demanding tactics of GDI and Nod forces. As the game continues to evolve, we can only hope that they avoid the pitfalls that other Play for Free titles have hit, and deliver a quality product for some entertaining browser based gameplay. Free to Play Trial Weekend BioWare released the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic on December 20th, 2011. Since then, they have sold well over 2 million copies. This weekend, Star Wars: The Old Republic will be free to play! From March 15th through March 19th, gamers can check out all 8 character classes and explore their origin world. In this trial version, players will have a few restrictions, such as the inability to use the Galactic Trade Network, or trade chat, along with several other types of chat. They will, however, be able to join any server, and chat locally, in group chat, guild chat, and will be able to reply to whispers and receive in-game mail. This will allow the player to find friends online who play the game, and to join them in PvP, PVE (Player versus Environment), and Role Playing game modes. Rank up to level 15 can be achieved, after which point, a message will notify the trial user that XP will not continue further in the trial. The best part is, when the trial ends, your character will not be deleted outright. If you want to play the game in the near future, you can log back in where you left off, after signing up. In an effort to make our servers more accessible to a larger audience, we have been looking for a more centralized location for our international game servers. Currently, our game servers are not consolidated in location or hardware. By combining our services, we would be able to offer faster services on a more central network to us all, and on more modern hardware. Here are the specs on one of the servers we're looking at, and HDD/RAM can be upgraded as needs dictate: VETERANS-GAMING will always be dedicated to our gamers first and foremost, and the concern of location must be addressed. As we have gamers from Australia to Russia, we would like to get a good cross section of all our pings to the potential servers available, as well as our current servers. We need to find out your ping to New York, New York - go to speedtest.net and then answer the poll above. If you can, we'd also appreciate your results to each potential server location. The War Begins Mass Effect 3 released last Tuesday and immediately came under fire as scores of scorned gamers complained about the day-one DLC. From Ashes includes a single player mission and a new character in more than 600MB of DLC for an additional $10. Players who purchased the N7 Collector's Edition get the DLC for free. Fans are angry that BioWare had apparently released an incomplete game for sake of making more money, and that releasing the content on day one proves it. Christina Norman, of Riot Games, defended BioWare at the Game Developers Conference this last week, and understandably so. She is the former programmer and designer for the Mass Effect franchise, and had this to say to the consumers: "There's no point in releasing DLC a year after your game has come out when most people have already sold your game back to GameStop three times. That means getting it out early; that means even day-one DLC. That is a terrible thing to some players. Players rant--they know nothing about this DLC that's coming out except its name. But then it's 'oh this game must be incomplete, the game must be ruined.' Game developers are not evil. (Some are evil.) But most are not evil. We just want to release awesome stuff. Players please, give us a chance. Judge our games based on what they are. Judge the DLC based on what it is. Stop thinking you're a producer and telling us when and where we should be building our content" In four days, 3.5 million copies of the game shipped to retailers. USA Today has called the game "the first true blockbuster game of the year." There are 16 alternate endings for Mass Effect 3, and players can carry over their saved content from previous installments of the game. More attacks come in the form of controversy over how to achieve the "best" ending, as some have incorrectly stated that multiplayer must be played to gain a high enough "Galactic Readiness" rating. BioWare has again assured players that this is untrue, and it is not required to play multiplayer to earn the "best" ending. The endings themselves have come under fire, but I'm sure it all boils down to a matter of taste and opinion - it is true that not every blockbuster needs to end with everyone still alive, hero gets the girl, and there's a blue sky on Mars. It may yet still be in Mass Effect's future that further DLC will be released, perhaps more alternate endings? Only time will tell. With so much depth, and even romantic interests for the characters, I'm surprised anyone has blasted their way through it so fast already. Rumors abound about this topic. The truth of the matter is that Ubisoft had Microsoft pull the add from the store immediately. This leads us to believe that either Ubisoft doesn't want Microsoft "tipping the hand" on a possible suprise or simply that it was initially erroneous. -

Yea, though not hardcore, or player vs. player, our Project Reality server is a true team-play paradise. It's the mechanics of the AAS, Attack and Secure, as well as so many other elements, that allow Project Reality such longivity while doing without all the newest graphics engines. If I had BF3, I'd join you in a hardcore match, but I'd certainly not go without a cross-section of players from the PR server including Poffadder, Robotfungus, melonmuncher, and others. Take some screenshots if you get the chance, PanamanianDevil - it would be cool to see a window into hardcore BF3 PvP matches! !fans

For three years, a Revolution has been brewing The year is 1753. In Colonial America, a young man begins a perilous journey, split between worlds - his father a British Soldier, his mother a Mohawk. He vows to take action against the Colonists who burn his mother's village to the ground. His name is Ratohnhake:ton and he descends from a long bloodline of assassins. Assassin's Creed 3 has been in development for three years now, and Ubisoft has been hard at work to surprise gamers once again with the newest chapter in the saga of the Assassins and the search for the Pieces of Eden. The series' focus on the 2012 apocalyptic prophecies comes to a delightful real life parallel as this final chapter is set to release October 31st of 2012, later this year. Spanning 30 years from 1753 to 1783, players will explore Colonial Boston, New York, and a vast expanse known as The Frontier. Ubisoft's upgraded engine will allow for "a couple thousand" characters to be on-screen simultaneously, and will no doubt allow for the recreation of impressive battles of that era. The new larger map, 1.5 times that of Rome in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, will recreate not only historical buildings, but historical events as well. According to sources, 7 Ubisoft studios have been working together, developing the game with "twice the capacity of any previous Ubisoft game." Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, says Assassin's Creed 3 is "the true next generation of both the Assassin's Creed brand and interactive entertainment/storytelling in general. We will push the title a lot because it's a fantastic product that the team has been working on for three years. What we have seen is just fabulous." The game has always revolved around Parkour, and this time, trees will play a part in the routes the players can choose from, giving new dimension to parkour runs. Combat will take a less reactive approach, at least in the sense that it will have a more fluid feel and aggressive nature. This will make for some exciting multiplayer, as up to 8 players will be able to go head to head. Rumors speak of a 2-4 player CO-OP mode, but only time will tell if this holds any weight. In games like this with one lead character, it would be difficult to make a coop mode without additional player character models. Games of the past have used boss, or lead enemy models to fill such roles. If Assassin's Creed 3 does have a CO-OP mode, you can be sure there won't be 4 Conner Clones parkouring their way across the coop frontier. While a COOP mode may seem appealing, in a story driven narrative that allows for so much freedom, it seems just a bit unfeasible. Ubisoft has taken great care to give a proper feel to the narrative, so as not to force the player too much, while still moving the story forward. In a recent interview with gameinformer, Creative Designer for Assassin's Creed 3 Alex Hutchinson describes what he has learned about working on games with narratives: "..the interesting narrative is the player driven narrative. It's the story the player tells themself as they play that is fascinating, and as designers, we create tools that build the possibility space of what they can talk about or how they can talk about it, and that's our authorial control. Gamers are telling their own story, and every time you try to stomp that and move through it, and say (you're playing it wrong), it's a disaster. You know, you need to let people express themselves, and let them have fun with the game." The free-roaming narrative games have always been my favorite, and barring branching story lines, make for the most variable experience from one player to the next. Welcome to the site! I gots my wings, but I haven't flown since Falcon 4 about a year ago - so dang busy with Arma and my crappy flight stick likes to yaw (bad news in a sim). You'll find plenty of flyers here, best bet is to just log into one of the Flight channels in TS3, and if no one is in there, either wait a bit as someone may join you, or even post up a chat in the chatbox here at VETERANS-GAMING to get a flight goin. EA DICE - News from GDC 2012 Yesterday, at GDC 2012, Danger Close revealed more about the newest addition to EA's Medal of Honor Series, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, slated for a release date of October 23, 2012. The game is powered by Battlefield 3's Frostbite 2.0 engine, allowing visually stunning details in fully modeled environments. According to the buzz, "papers fly with near gunfire, chandeliers sway, and wooden beams splinter". This time around, the multiplayer development will not fall to DICE, but will stay in-house with Danger Close, and will include a hardcore "One Shot Kill" mode. A CO-OP mode will let players leave the head-to-head multiplayer online games and experience deeper team play elements, but a full cooperative campaign story mode is not likely. As with previous installments, Medal of Honor Warfighter will center around the missions of Tier 1 Operators on a variety of similar-to-life events in real world locals including, we've been told, the flooded Isabela City in the Philippines. Mother, Voodoo, Preacher, and others return to live the tale along with new international Special Forces including British SAS, German KSK, Polish GROM, and the Australian SASR! It's so great to see more non-U.S. Spec Ops groups in these modern warfare games! There are so many more impressive factions throughout the globe, I find it to be an excellent choice to bring more attention to these highly skilled, sometimes lesser known teams. EA said that "Warfighter delivers an aggressive, gritty, and authentic experience that puts gamers in the boots of today's most precise and disciplined warriors in an up close and personal look at today's battlefield and the fight against the ongoing global terror threat. Inspired by actual events, and written by active Tier 1 Operators while deployed overseas. When an extremely deadly explosive (PETN) penetrates civilian borders, Preacher and his fellow teammates are sent in to solve the problem." In using real world operatives to co-write the events and missions in Medal of Honor Warfighter, Danger Close has assured us gamers that it's goal with this is to represent a tone and feel of authenticity as opposed to a true military simulation. As in previous versions, players health will still regenerate, but new dynamics will bring a more tactical feel to the experience. One example would be choosing how to breach an entrance be it by C4 blast, kicking in the door, or tossing a flashbang into the room - each with it's own dynamic outcome based on the players choice. Medal of Honor Warfighter is sure to be just one of many upcoming titles that will use DICE's Frostbite 2.0 engine. At the Game Developers Conference a few days ago, Electronic Arts announced the opening of a new studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, to work on yet another possible sequel to one of EA's franchise games. "A new EA studio focused on making a new generation of games on the Frostbite 2 engine. Only time will tell as to which game series the focus will be on, but further news may come out at E3 this June. I don't want people to have to download a 4 GB mission, but we could test it and see. If we kept updates to once every several months and found a way to change addons back to included scripts, I guess anything is possible. Just, how long do you want someone with slow internet to wait before the mission DL's to their pc? -

BLuDKLoT =VG= LAN_WROTE ... PC Gaming can change your brain! Recent studies are finding that these changes improve creativity, decision-making, concentration and dexterity. What I find ironic is that the violent games have the most the beneficial effects on the gamers brain. Government-funded researchers in the US and Europe have reported similar findings. In the largest public study of electronic gaming so far, Mark Blair at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia, is turning the games themselves into a laboratory for learning. He is analyzing the behavior of 150,000 people who play a popular online game called StarCraft II, to learn how new knowledge and experience can become second nature, integrated into the way we react to the world around us. I wonder how VG could get into this, lol. The sooner they get us some full Virtual Reality suits like a holodeck, the sooner we'll all be building muscle memory as well as mental training. I'm loving the direction the industry is going with biometrics and motion control!

Steam Console by Alienware? The internets are all abuzz about the rumors of a Steam Console that will combine capability and simplicity into one small box. I'm going to go out on a limb here, to show you that these "rumors" are anything but. All signs point to an official announcement within the next few months at E3, perhaps even this week during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California. What is known is that the specs of such a system would allow it to be small, yet very powerful, and able to play modern PC games. Back in 2009, Alienware and Steam began a relationship where Alienware PC gaming systems would come with Steam pre-installed. Since then, Steam had reportedly hinted at using the well known hardware company to develop this rumored Steam Console, citing that they (Steam) are a software company - willing to outsource hardware ideas. Compare that to Alienware's X51 Gaming System, and you have all the makings of a wonderful conspiracy to revitalize the PC gaming industry and give consoles such as Playstation and Xbox some worthy competition. According to online sources, potenial partners had a chance to demo an early version the Steam box at the Consumer Electronics Show. Apparently, the specs include an i7 2600 CPU, 8GB RAM, a 1TB hard drive, and an NVIDIA GPU, all powered by an external Power Supply Unit to better manage space and heat. On May 5th, 2011, Valve Corporation filed a patent application for a "Video Game Controller having user swappable control components". Obviously, this controller would be part of the console system, if developed, and perhaps part of the system's biometrics which would track player motions. The cooperation of Alienware and Steam is a good step towards simplifying the PC gaming experience and opening the market to gamers previously relegated to Playstation and Xbox systems. Back in 2009, Steam had this to say about working with Alienware: "Entertainment, specifically gaming, is a primary use of PCs in the home and on the road," said Jason Holtman, director of business development at Valve. "Alienware is a household name among PC gamers who want the most out of their hardware. The combination of Alienware hardware and Steam equals a superior gaming experience." Up, Up, and Away! The new patch 1.2 for MineCraft is out, and the host of new additions reaches to the sky - literally. Along with new units, items, blocks, and even AI, the sky of MineCraft has been given new limits, from 128 to 256, allowing real mountains and truly hidden castles in the sky. Also, the new Jungle biome brings with it new trees and climable vines. Now, Iron Golems protect cities, Zombies break down doors and behave with new mob AI, and ocelots roam the wild places - ready to be tamed by players with a nice piece of fish! Tamed wolves can have puppies, and Villagers can have children (space permitting); it seems like the world is becoming more alive with each new patch. Unstoppable now, the MineCraft phenomenon continues to grow, and the MineCraft Team has just brought on board four community members who were key in developing bukkit, a community-based MineCraft server implementation. Nathan Adams, Nathan Gilbert, Warren Loo, and Erik Broes are now official MineCraft Team Members. According to Jens Bergensten at Mojang's website, "(the four) will work on improving both the server and the client to offer better official support for larger servers and server modifications. "The plan is to build a fresh server API, and then extend it to support client-side modding (in one way or another). We will try to make it easy for bukkit users to convert if they wish to do so, but backwards compatibility is not guaranteed. We will, however, help bukkit to be compatible with 1.2, to avoid having a long gap while you wait for the official Minecraft server to catch up. "Many of you may ask why we decided to work with bukkit instead of other Minecraft teams, such as Spout or Forge.", Jens continued, "The reason is that we want more than just modding, and these guys have always had server admins in mind when developing their additions to the game. We hope that this will help the quality of Minecraft multi-player to improve, both for large and private family servers, while still being able to add fun stuff for the bigger audience."
