Someone told me in game that there was some release of old school maps for PR and some of them were also co-op. So I tried to Google it and found this: http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f196-pr-highlights/143934-pr-bf2-v1-4-official-retro-map-pack-released.html So what's the story here? Will we be able to play (some of) these maps on the server? I remember a discussion some time ago about this and it sort of died out after a few days but if this is real and it works that would be pretty cool. Does anyone know? Cheers,

No complaints here mate. This is so awesome and I am so excited! I was just concerned if it was a bug (for me or others) thanks for clarifying. I think we're pretty set most / all key assets/positions are manned and from what I heard recruitment for infantry is going well so far with @=VG= Double_13 and his Russian squad, @Kavelenko and @HaterOneActual appear to have full squads too (should the volunteer SL's list the people joining like Double did?) Might make sense to get an idea on attendance. But I think there's 20 people or more at the minimum who committed to joining this Friday. Also - will we do some pre-strategize session on the website or make it up as we go on the event? Personally I think it makes sense to discuss roles different squads will play on each map. For example I am playing with Double on Ramiel in the Stryker, infantry on Khami and Lashkar and Tigre with @=VG= TEDF on Barracuda so my tasks are pretty clear listen to Double and listen to Ted. But for other teams / people some strategic plans may make sense to prepare. What do you think? Is that a good idea? Is it allowed?

The maps and premises are awesome. Thanks Melon! However just a (probably) dumb question from me. I got the event maps. They all work on local server and no crashes even with my poor 6 y/o old baby (peecee) but on the Khami map everything seems frozen as in the bots don't spawn and neither do the choppers. Is it me? Is it supposed to be like that or do other people have the same and it will be an issue? Also - I just noticed from the rules that if we lose the Strykers and Humvee (who are the only ones that can capture flags) on Ramiel we lose the game, basically they're our Achilles heel as there's no alternative strategy, so we'll need a kick-ass repair squad in the rear and close infantry support against those pesky RPG guys and elite infantry on point to clear the road. It's probably going to be the hardest map I think because the assets can't/shouldn't take point so infantry needs to clear the map with the IFV and Humvee's providing fire support and defend flags with engineers in our back to keep us alive. Tough but awesome challenge there as three well aimed RPG hits can end the game in a matter of seconds Do we get a rematch if we lose? The other maps are equally challenging but less risky if you ask me.

@Kavelenko @HaterOneActual can I just make one suggestion? A lot of great players don't frequent the website. So invite them in game.

Mutating Zombie bugs. Brrrrr... But I am no techie (see what I did there, pun intended) so I actually have no idea if it's a local problem or a server issue.
-
@PissBlitzYeah I had issues too not particularly on joining but mostly on map changes. The game just goes CTD without warning with the same message. So I basically 're-installed' Windows with a clean sheet and reinstalled the game and since then it is better I can actually play several maps in a row and join with no issues. I don't know if that helps or if it's really server related but in my case a fresh install solved the issues.

@=VG= Double_13 That's actually quite interesting. You do know the game in and out far better than me but I personally feel my lack of knowledge (and this is consciencely) of the bot movements and spawn points on maps helps to make the gaming experience more 'fun'. Because I feel I try to make it more of a team effort where people have to improvise and I am not the 'all-knowing' 'soothsayer' that simply tells people what to do and when and how. I could be wrong but I find that often people who play with me make the squad (more) awesome because they get to go over and beyond the call of duty to make it work and the extra drama of getting into trouble due to some bad / risky calls on my side or screw-ups from other people makes it more fun and rewarding to make it work. For example: I think it was yesterday when 7 awesome guys and I were playing 'Special Boats Service' with the approval and help of @HaterOneActual as commander and hell it was fun ... At least I thought so... It was just cool to run into trouble, get creative, improvise, and through the excellent efforts of my squad and Trans support we still made it and kicked ass and ended up winning the map as best squad. For me personally it's a game and working together to solve problems makes it more fun.

Whilst I fully agree with your goals @WCCBadploy we must - and yes I am old-school as well - acknowledge that it's a free to play game and a lot of people simply don't care and moreover don't talk or communicate. This is an issue that I discussed/attempted to clarify previously. I actually left the server yesterday in anger and frustration because team work was zero and some guys got angry because I asked them to perform a team-role rather than their preferences. Call me a coward but it wasn't going anywhere. And it won't unless you can convince people to use their mics and join a squad. Now with regards to leading. I feel that a lot of us that know how to lead a squad don't because 'meh', --- myself --- I rather play with Double or Hater or Kav or Keed etc. Because whilst, you don't remember, but you and @=VG= Fastjack taught me how to play the game and be a 'decent' squad leader, sometimes it just seems like too much trouble. You know what I mean? But I agree. We 'veterans' need to work harder to regain the community it once was. Without soloing, with sacrifice, with reward.

I will stick with Tigre gunner and Stryker gunner but happy to surrender one if need be
-
@=VG= Melon Muncher Just one more question. Are we supposed to allocate roles for assets like @Rotblut did (first come, first served) or just wait for you to allocate it to us?
-
Awesome @=VG= Melon Muncher! I would be happy to apply for the Tiger gunner position (because I never did before and I'd simply love to) and/or the Stryker gunner position (as I am pretty good at it). If possible, if not I'm happy to play infantry. Also - don't know if this is the right topic but I was going through some old discussions because some things have clouded up by different information from different people all of have since been clarified. However. I came across a topic regarding the usage of the BDRM and @Kavelenko had this idea/suggestion if we could play like an IFV map like IFV-1, IFV-2 etc. and play like an event like this on a challenging map. I re-read it this morning and thought it could be an idea for a future event? Is that possible? If so it could be pretty awesome on Ramiel I think. Anyhow if this isn't the appropriate topic I will keep it in mind. Cheers.
-
@=VG= Melon Muncher Well isn't it because a lot of them simply don't know how to play the game? I have had plenty of newbies joining my squad sometimes after I asked them if they want to join and teach them how to play. Which in my experience they enjoyed. I guess forcing people is pointless but motivating people to get the best out of their PR experience could be very helpful. Again just thoughts.
-
@=VG= Melon Muncher Thanks for clarifying. Most of them are pretty obvious and make sense are consistent with how I admin, but I am a bit surprised about the non-existent 'join a squad' rule I would swear that there was always a message in the past that says 'you must join a squad' - I personally don't force people to join a squad because like you said why cause bother if it is not necessary. On the other hand basically what happened yesterday was purely because of probably the majority of the players soloing or otherwise not assaulting as a team. So in that case it would make sense to ask players to squad up if you ask me. But fair enough. @=VG= Double_13 Well yeah I agree but I am asking because not just from that conversation yesterday but also while talking to other admins those subjects have come up. I believe it was you even who said that while it's cool to have a squad of 8 very experienced veteran players who basically cut through a map like a hot knife through butter it's also a bit of a shame that we often don't split up in more teams and teach the newbies how to play the game with the most fun and effectiveness. Hence I was asking to clarify a few points mixed messages regarding managing the server. Thanks for reaffirming what I already thought. On a different note what's the story on the maps you edited? Will they be launched this year or will it take more time?

@=VG= TEDF Just in reference to your comment on the previous unban request thread - wasn't the situation there something that would require a defensive stance? I mean 15 blue-berries soloing and several others in the wrong squad out of 33 people? It is a question because a fully agree that when squads are camping it is ruining the game and I don't even understand why some people do it. But I often take a defensive stance when I see no reasonable means to assault so I am curious if I am breaking rules? Many people can attest that as a squad leader I sometimes force them to stay to defend a position for an entire map without even attempting to push simply because I don't deem it feasible or possible and more often it's actually quite hard to even hold the position against enemy assaults. Typically I use a few 'golden' rules for assault and defense 1.) When assaulting it is okay to push up if your current flag is neutral and there are assets or troops to defend it. Is that okay? 2.) When defending you must have a defense marker on your flag, if that goes you have to push up. Is that correct? 3.) As a squad you can be supportive to a flag capture i.e. by destroying enemy columns of inf and armour but you have to be within an reasonable vicinity to the flag and squad you're supporting, typically a few boxes. That's okay right? Thanks. Again I am asking to clarify a few things that I believe lead to a ban of someone who seems like a pretty good guy but moreover there were a lot of other things that went wrong.

On a different issue I just had a conversation in an unban request that rose a few admin issues/questions. Just to be sure. 1.) We admins are supposed to enforce the 'join a squad' rule correct? Meaning !w, !w, !k? 2.) As admins we are/should be required to lead squads when needed as for example in the previous conversation where it was painfully obvious that the game became frustrating due to people soloing and in the wrong squad. 3.) Is there actually a valid reason to have more people in a Trans squad then the pilots? I see no reason for it as Trans typically crashes or gets shot down with a missile? Also - I will gladly admit that sometimes I sit out a map with trans or play as a medic/lat/grenadier because I don't want to play it (as SL) and just blablabla with my friends but I will always, when things go south, leave and create a squad to assist or finish the map. 4.) We are pretty clear on the fact that if you have a defense marker on your flag it's perfectly valid to keep your squad there and build an FOB for fire support and defenses? Because that was just an odd thing there to me but I'd like to see it clarified for future reference. 5.) As squad leader you can obviously ignore orders from the commander if you deem them too risky or foolish. To be honest I am actually not clear on what to do as an admin when an incompetent commander takes charge. Ignore it. Resign him/her? What's the protocol? Thanks. I hope this discussion will avoid future events like yesterday's. Because frankly I think that these unclarities helped cause it.

There's actually something about this post I do not follow. Obviously it is entirely possible that there's an admin who is not following the basic rules and responsibilities that comes with the privilege. I'm not saying there is and I have not witnessed it, but it is possible. But if that is the case there are channels to comment on your grievances. From my experience all admins that are investing their time alongside playing the game to keep our server tidy, fun and nice are doing, albeit not perfectly, the best they can. So personally I am, and I think no one is, actually not interested in reviewing the admin team as such because I do think all of us are doing the best we can, but I am more interested in what admin(s) you feel are grieving you and others. Put a name with the complaint.

project reality About the PR:BF2 v1.4 (Co-op Maps) for =VG= Server
Jersans replied to =VG= Inch's topic in PR Cooperative
Hey guys I heard the coop server doesn't work if you update. Is there a time when the server will be updated? Heard somepeople can't play now -
Wouldnt it be possible to have an announcement on the server stating that we'll be adding brand new maps on November 21st and to visit our website for instructions? Just a thought
-
Thanks for the feedback guys. Those are all really helpful. It's much appreciated.

Hey guys, I am not really sure if this is the right place. But I think a lot of you are veterans and some of you may have some issues with what happened as well, it ain't easy. So let me try to explain what made me write this post. A guy I know served in the military and has now after his service in Afghanistan some serious problems with adjusting to real life. Basically he has a wife, two kids and a house but also a thing for 'tha drink' and can't skip out of it. Refuses any help or assistance, has the fears and the nightmares and the shakes but cannot escape them with or without drinking. He talks to me. But I cannot help him. What do I tell him? He's also living away from home so help isn't available but this man served his country and I don't feel that he should end in some drunken stuper. If any of you have any advice on where I should quietly try to guide him for some help. Let me know. Thanks, Jersans.

Wow this is pretty awesome! So I do get that the mappack won't be available for download in the next couple of days or weeks but can people volunteer to test a few maps? And if yes, how does that work?
-
Ah yes! That I totally agree with. But I thought Double had the solution for that, meaning that admins can see if admins are online and other people can't. That, I believe, was his idea and it made perfect sense. Than there's the admin hierarchy meaning that light-admins have different rights than full admins and full admins have lower rights than =VG= admins. It made perfect sense to me. A light admin could kick and warn when they spotted something and earn their spurs and at the end a =VG= admin called the shots on map change or even a ban or kick. Kinda like Sheriff's and deputies.
-
No I am cool with it I know most of the admins anyway. I just don't get all the smoke and mirrors. Sometimes you recruit the wrong person, fire that person.
-
You lost me now. Wasn't ACRO's question about why we cannot as non-=VG= admins see who's policing? I totally agree with, what I believe was Double's suggestion, to hide it from 'normal' players but it's more about !admins for admins. I mean I play differently when I see there are four other admins online than when I am alone. Then... When I know I am the only admin I often have to spend more time keeping the server nice and checking all the reports and bad shit that happens. Is that wrong? I mean I know when Double is there and other admins they will watch their corner and I only have to intervene when I spotted something they missed. Doesn't that make sense? Or am I missing something?
