1. Topic hasn't got much about 3rd person - let it indeed be the end of that discussion in this thread. Make separate discussion thread for any further points, perhaps filling first post with quoted parts from this thread. !offtopic SavageCDN =VG= LAN_WROTE ... I'd like to put together a set list of mods that we will use at VG. This will simplify things for mission makers as well as players. Any mods that you want added to the list must be tested by VG first before being included in the pack... mostly to prevent conflicts between mods. I'm not sure if maps should be included here - thoughts? Any mods we use must have the following: - thread on BIS forums for feedback and questions - proper working key file for the server (I'm looking at you, ACRE) - testing approval to avoid conflicts and other mod-related issues Here's what I'm thinking: SERVER ONLY
@VTS_Ballistic adds bullet drop and wind effects

SERVER AND CLIENT
@CBA_A3                core mod
@African_Conflit    units
@ALiVE                Pure Win
@BaBe_midTex        mid-range texture replacement
@bCombat            AI mod
@CAF                units - requires @HiddenIdentityPack
@cTab                commander tablet
@FA18_A3            F18
@HiddenIdentityPack required for @CAF
@mcc_sandbox_a3        Win
@mbg_killhouses_a3 adds enterable/breachable houses (Cinder City)
@RH_M4_A3            RobertHammer M4/M16 pack
@NATO_RUSSIAN_SF_Weapons   required by unit packs
@TaskForceRadio        the new ACRE
@TMR_Alt weapon resting and other 'realism' features

CLIENT ONLY
@Blastcore_A3
@JSRS2
@sthud_a3

MAPS
@A3MP                a2 map pack
@Fallujah

-if other A2 maps work by just having @A3MP running... *HAPPYHAPPY, JOYJOY*
Any thoughts / suggestions?

Temp teamspeak server is back up and running same IP and login info ts3.veterans-gaming.com or 5.9.23.136 is the IP (same as before) Also it may go down a few times today as things get installed, restarted, etc. No game services yet, need to install, configure and restore TCAdmin first.
  3. From Chatbox: =VG= SavageCDN wrote ... Hetzner server has a failed disk which is probably causing those disconnects. I've opened a ticket with them not sure how long it will take to fix, sorry. ... I need to perform full backups before the disk is replaced.. just in case. All should be back to normal by tomorrow morning. =VG= Robotfungus wrote ... PR and teamspeak both keep dropping out =VG= SavageCDN wrote ... Yep I've asked them to replace the failed hard drive.. they say 3-4 hours to complete. If TS3 and games go down completely that is why... sorry for the inconvenience. !dash ... I can't even access the server remotely now so hopefully the Hetzner techs are working on it. =VG= Solarflame wrote ... Well the hard drives are raid 1 right? We shouldn't have lost any data... I'm not even sure why the server is down... The drives should be hot swappable. All it should need to do is swap in a blank drive and let it rebuild the array. Not sure what sort of weird set up they're running if one disk on raided hard drives cause the server to down.. I'd be tempted to ask them why, exactly, do we have any downtime... This is exactly the sort of thing that raid is supposed to prevent.. ... On another note, nice job savage. =VG= SavageCDN wrote ... It's Windows software RAID (yuck) and apparently they have to power down the server in order to swap the drive. I had to agree to this before they would do the work: "Furthermore, I understand that the server needs to be switched off and disconnected from the mains for the hard disk to be exchanged" OMG - thanks for the update - TS3 did indeed go down just now, and I was worried it was something I did! hah! had logged into TCAdmin and had to enter password - thought some other browser captured my keys and went and fucked shit. ugh !suicide Nice to know it's just that our awesomeness over the years fried a drive. That hard drive (if dead from use and not inherent defect) is like Deep Space 9, when they wore out the Defiant's phaser power cells often during the war: "Take a good look at this, people. It says something about this ship. It says that we will fight, and we will keep on fighting, until we can't fight any more!", places spent cell on display next to the others, "You don't just throw something like this away!" !fans Wish we could have the dead drive to mount on the VG Lounge wall. Ha!
  4. I know I have the logins around here somewhere - I will find them and get it done(as of writing, they may be in my phone chat messages...) - should be up and running before too long, I am currently busy (audio driver fun stuff, I have no sound right now). !hi
  5. I like the look of that Gnomoria game... interesting concept, and well done it looks.
  6. SavageCDN =VG= LAN_WROTE ... As FYI we are using the 'other' radio mod - Task Force Radio. definitely gonna have to join that test server to get this one sorted and learned...
  7. Thanks for the heads up! Campaign restarted - DPRK are a little farther north this time, let's see how their Southern attack gets repelled. !cp !cheers
  8. I will be there!! !2cool FTL prefered - put Tortia with me if not with Savage, maybe Savage too...
  9. And I was super surprised when, after a little fiddling and .lua editing, I got the MFCD's onto my second monitor (with the Thrustmaster MFD USB controllers), and then push LMFCD OSB 13 and TGP comes up - I didn't even go to the controls of the game yet! It already works! No 20 OSB's to program - ahhhh - DCS... I'm in love! !giveheart

    I love anything based on Afghanistan - but throw in caves, and I'm gonna get all giddy!!! Was so impressed with PR 1.0+ versions and the maps with under-mountain interiors! Way cool and a much needed aspect of Afghan fighting. Can't wait till it's out - I can think of some awesome missions with caves like that! !2cool
  11. Amazing find Murder - yes. very much like that. Although again, like a console, Razer will want to keep it proprietary, like when you upgrade one part, you buy the upgrade from them, not anyone, or MSI, or Corsair... Again, that is just what I was thinking but I would love it if they made it all a universal standard - like USB, or whatever. I even love how most micro-USB connections going into different brands of phones and tablets are mostly the same version. I've got so many charger cords now, and at the airports I was just bouncing around, most the people stuck and filling them like cattle from the "Arctic Vortex" were using all the power outlets, but each outlet also had USB - so I just powered mine straight from cables to USB in the wall. (which each plug into small transformers I carry like this when using power outlets: So if they can get one of them console PC's to be kindof form factor like that, but with universal swap out parts - that will explode the free market and really put variable powered PC's throughout the home, each room of each house like Laptops already abound in a family home. Seriously, any house with teens - the average is that they have a laptop at least for school and socializing. All industries make their standard, and PC Gaming will make that one when it's as fool proof for the masses as laptops are now to the "inept teenage girl". Or the teenage boy who could fry something expensive with a new heatsink fail. Razer is making a huge push - anyone else seeing this? They've bought a bunch of other companies devices and I now see them branded "Razer"
  12. I like the idea of them making PC gaming more accessible, and I do think of it like an industry awaiting it's next biggest marketing boom. When it came to consoles, even they had planned upgradability - PS2 + Hard Drive or PS2 + Network Controller (slotted that thing into the big fat bay to give it internet before it was a standard in the "thin" PS2) And like hotrods, there will always be those who build fast custom builds and a market for that. But to really hit the masses, they'd have to cater to people like consoles do on a need by need basis. So, maybe a new wave of fast motherboard with more drop-in technology may come around, where even the most inept could pull a plastic slot out of their "console PC" and hotswap out a GFX card, or CPU/heatsink/fan combo like they do with server PC hard drives? Would open up sales of those ez-sinked CPU/Fan combos already set if they can agree on a chipset. Poff said there's only so many pins and pathways before they'd be too small... gotta level out soon.

Outlanders: Exactly, there's no reason to buy expensive shit from nvidia every year. Everything looks the same anyway. It depends more on how well the game is made, rather than the amount of expensive metal that you have. Murderface: so true poffadder: The Steam machines are going to be great for the PC gaming industry. Standardization is a bit indefeasible because PCs are open architecture and there are millions of different hardware/software configurations. "what will be the point of having a GTX Titian or 690, when something playing on a 550 looks and performs exactly the same?" - That really depends on the game, there are games out there now that exhibit these qualities. Software will always advance faster than hardware, there will always be software and games that push PCs to their limits. The PC is going extinct, a PC gaming revolution could breath new life into the industry: http://www.technologyreview.com/news/426222/the-personal-computer-is-dead/
  14. Please Support Your Local Servers! This is not a post to goad people into getting rid of their hard earned cash and Holiday bonuses, nor to debate the means by which we acquire the funds to keep this thing that is VG going, but as we move into the new year, I would like to encourage those who ARE able to give back to the community that keeps your favorite public servers online. At present, we have compacted and compiled our fees to the most sensible and fiscally responsible means, including a rather cut-and-run migration of our community website which has cost us the loss of many images, video files, downloadables hosting, and even some problems viewing the multiple pages of posts under certain forum post catagories, to where we only need to come up with a rather minimum amount of monies to make ends meet and keep alive the servers and website that is VETERANS-GAMING. We are able to offer Arma 2 and Arma 3 persistent servers and Community Event servers for both, private Minecraft Servers, a persistent Falcon BMS Korean War Campaign, as well as The Most Popular COOP Server for Battlefield 2: Project Reality Mod thanks to the =VG= PR Dev MelonMuncher, whom without his hard work, Project Reality COOP would not exist as a game mode for the masses to play anywhere. We are working on the website issues, albeit an e107 system that even the webmaster SolarFlame has been taxed in repairing. Know that us head admins have it all covered - but it is a bit selfish for the few people whose names the bills are in to pay them all themselves. Regardless of whether we receive donations, VG will continue to pay the website server and game server bills, but needless to say, the contributing members should not have to do so all alone. If you ARE able, and are willing, please consider donating a few bucks to your local server, and show some love. SolarFlame is a tribute to the hard work he has done for VG, in that his experience and knowledge in technical matters over the years for this community was his only reference for his new job as an IT professional with a company in London, far from his home in Scotland. Special Thanks for all he has done to help with the VG website!! Also, SavageCDN has been footing the bill for our game servers for more years than I can count - a very powerful server through which hard work and technical knowhow has been able to host not only the TeamSpeak 3 Server (100 Potential Clients at once) but also runs each and every public server we play on without conflict, lag, or any extended down time. Not bad for a single CPU server (8 cores, and tons of RAM) - he also deserves a little love before the wifey starts braining him with an iron skillet. We all contribute in different ways to help keep VG running. I, SemlerPDX, have taken up the task of keeping our Falcon BMS Online Campaign Server functioning; and a special thanks goes out to a little known VG Member, Belgriffin, who keeps that server hardware running and up to date year after year. This is my only way of donating at present, time spent each morning of each day in the week. Contact me if this has issues, and I will always drop what I am doing to keep the VG Korean Theatre of War available to all who would fly under the VG Flag. Also, know that the VETERANS-GAMING Founder BLuDKLoT is still with us, if only in spirit, as he has had difficulty lately with keeping an internet connection at his new home. Though he may not be around as often as he would like, I speak with him frequently and he is indeed still our heart and soul. Know that you can always contact me for anything you require, as I will always act with honor and respect as his right hand. "To help those in need is to honor yourself" VETERANS-GAMING Arma 2 COOP Insurgency Video Please dig deep - current members, active =VG= administrators, new community members, and all the rest. Please show your support by giving what you can, and to those who donate already via time spent administrating and to those who give back in other ways, rest easy and keep doing what you do to promote and support your local servers. We know that not everyone can donate money, but even time spent keeping VETERANS-GAMING a clean, fun place to be is a way to donate - this request for cash is not geared at you. Simply put, we need cash from those ABLE - for all the rest, just keep showing your love by doing what you do, or simply populating our TS3 and game servers and promoting the COOP TeamPlay spirit that is VG. This coming year, we plan to have a proper professional website. For now, we are still at a stage that requires direct community support, and we humbly ask those who are able to donate cash to do so now. Thank you for reading and thank you to all our supporters, either monetarily or administratorily. Long Live The VETERANS-GAMING Community!! !cheers

  17. Server was down since Christmas Day - it has now been restarted and is back up now. The DPRK have pushed South of the 38th parallel in force, and Seoul is facing a massive takeover. All available pilots should scramble from Seosan in the 120th wing as soon as possible to assist ground and air forces in repelling Kim Jong-un's despicable offensive push into peaceful South Korea. Good luck, and Godspeed! !cp

  19. (try this if this is your kind of math. Poff and Terremer, I'm thinkin you'd be able to get this, and would be surprised if you worked through it without checking the answer) ;) For all the rest of us, and the overworked math nuts who don't want to be bothered with more math at Christmas, just click this link for the surprise answer: http://i.imgur.com/pxk6zuJ.jpg *(credit goes to Srinivasan Varadarajan, friend of VG on Facebook. Thanks for the neat share!)
  20. @murder - just start downloading now, maybe it will finish a few minutes before game day. Hobbit-net must suck... !lol j/k I'll have to sit this one out - I'll be home from xmas vacation on Jan 7th. Looks good, Cold! !fans
  21. And to you, too! My little family is all together finally - last kid just got in from Wisconsin, and my daughter is so happy to see her brother! And of course their mother is super happy, too! Great to be with family for the holidays! See you all in January! !fans
  22. That is very cool of you. More people who know VG but don't know that you put up a server for this game may have an easier time finding it and increasing your player base if the name of this server reflected our clan name... might I suggest VETERANS-GAMING 7D2D COOP !cheers
  23. Bee's die off = all plant life on earth begins to die off. (this one is real and scarry - no one knows why the bees are going so far down in numbers, but it is really happening right now. Nowhere near a real problem yet, but each year in Oregon, I see less and less bees on our berry bushes and in the yard in general. spooky! if they die, all of them, the earth will be a ball of sand, rock, and dirt in a matter of decades.)
  24. This thread was started half a year ago - was bumped. I am not sure if Reality Gamers are international, but I can tell you that they are English speaking for the majority. Though this thread was a heads up to us about these "brothers in arms", I'm not sure if we've ever organized an actual Joint Op - but it is still on the table, possible, and if anyone wants to take the initiative and contact some reps at RG to create a Joint Op Gaming Event in some game(s) that both our communities play, you should feel free. Just make sure you get a decent set of RSVP from your event signups as it is the holiday season, and regardless, I've seen well planned events go off with an insultingly low number of attendants (whether or not they RSVP'd). Basic rule: If you don't get enough signups for an event, don't get upset; just play with the group you have and re-post the event for later date as an Operation Redux. !cheers
