RECON Operations & Boot Camps

Like the first time a round, I am looking forward to continuing the routine running of Recon Team Tactical Sessions and Boot Camps for Players with limited  Collaborative experience.

A Big Thank You to all the =VG= Community for making me feel welcome and supporting my efforts in getting this going.

There is no disputing that there is already an impressive level of teamwork.

I am just looking to focus on getting new players up to speed and help other great regulars be better at collaborating

Areas that I will be looking at will be Ground to CAS communication and team work.

Taking more than 1 minute or 30 seconds to respond to a strike request is too long.

Another area will be infantry and squad tactics, with the primary task of getting players working together and trusting their squad mates.

This is especially important for  Specialist units such as Medics,  AT, Engineers, and Snipers.

I look forward to the day we get back to the time when it was a case of how quickly as a team we could finish a map was the main challenge, and not player conduct or game play issues.

I am also hoping that we will be able to go with a group to a deployment server and do some serious pwnage like we did in the past.

So if you see me out there doing something you do not understand, please remember it is usually part of a training exercise.

See You All Out There!!

I know how frustrating it can be. Please stay the course and continue the good work.

However, with consistency and the enthusiasm of a few keen folks, it can be a tide that will turn for the better.

After all, we only need to set the standards and others will follow.

I understand that not every one is a "true" team player.

Working on drills with accepting and dedicated team players should be not include such players.

Most of these simply do the bare minimum to support fellow team mates.

It is important to identify these players and obviously ensure they are left to their own devices, as in some cases they can be of great use as either cannon fodder, agitators or "agents provocateur" for the OP FOR.

They are "kill oriented" and see the score they achieve as the be all and end all, rather than an incidental outcome of their commitment to team play.

Trust me it works. It happened in the past and is happening now.

You find that if the team play is exceptional and effective, even these soloist join in, as they really have no choice.

Whilst I fully agree with your goals @WCCBadploy we must - and yes I am old-school as well - acknowledge that it's a free to play game and a lot of people simply don't care and moreover don't talk or communicate. This is an issue that I discussed/attempted to clarify previously.

I actually left the server yesterday in anger and frustration because team work was zero and some guys got angry because I asked them to perform a team-role rather than their preferences.

Call me a coward but it wasn't going anywhere. And it won't unless you can convince people to use their mics and join a squad.

Now with regards to leading. I feel that a lot of us that know how to lead a squad don't because 'meh', --- myself --- I rather play with Double or Hater or Kav or Keed etc. Because whilst, you don't remember, but you and @=VG= Fastjack taught me how to play the game and be a 'decent' squad leader, sometimes it just seems like too much trouble. You know what I mean?

But I agree. We 'veterans' need to work harder to regain the community it once was. Without soloing, with sacrifice, with reward.

Only requirement for joining my squad

1. LISTEN to da SL

2. Have a decent mic (meaning I can hear what you say without having to hear the sound effects of the game)

3. LISTEN to da SL

if people able to do that, they can stick around and get taught the way of the warrior. I do not care having a squad full of randoms as long as conditions 1 and 3 are met. However these little requirements seems to be to much for most people and results in removal from my squad.

The best way to train people is that they listen to what you say, because it doesn't matter if they don't know how to switch fire mode on joining. As long they listen to the people talking to them they can be taught how to revive, switch fire mode, change kit and other thingymegigs.

Talking about Squadleading

For me it seems most SL play a tape that represents the flag/map progression. They always go to that certain building then take trans to next point sir on a predefined location. However if for some odd reason the progression is not the same as always they get stuck until the tape can be continued to be played. There is no improvising of the SL as they seem to know only 1 way and refuse to try a different method.

I personally know all the easy ways to finish the maps because I have a understanding how the AI works in the game and how to exploit there limitations. However I always try doing something else to find other more interesting ways of finishing the maps. This keeps the game fun for me, even taught I have been playing the game nonstop for over a year.

Until now I only seen Kavlenko actively asking me (and possibly others) how to finish certain maps with only a squad of 4. Even on maps I had never played before (goose green/soul rebel) . His openness to other people's way show off in the way he leads his squad in more then one way around the map with limited casualties.

I think plenty of SL's can learn from playing with other SL's for a round they often have trouble with. But this is there own choice to make.

@=VG= Double_13 That's actually quite interesting.

You do know the game in and out far better than me but I personally feel my lack of knowledge (and this is consciencely) of the bot movements and spawn points on maps helps to make the gaming experience more 'fun'. Because I feel I try to make it more of a team effort where people have to improvise and I am not the 'all-knowing' 'soothsayer' that simply tells people what to do and when and how.

I could be wrong but I find that often people who play with me make the squad (more) awesome because they get to go over and beyond the call of duty to make it work and the extra drama of getting into trouble due to some bad / risky calls on my side or screw-ups from other people makes it more fun and rewarding to make it work.

For example: I think it was yesterday when 7 awesome guys and I were playing 'Special Boats Service' with the approval and help of @HaterOneActual as commander and hell it was fun  ... At least I thought so... It was just cool to run into trouble, get creative, improvise,  and through the excellent efforts of my squad and Trans support we still made it and kicked ass and ended up winning the map as best squad.

For me personally it's a game and working together to solve problems makes it more fun.

You can learn a lot about the game by playing under different squad leaders, evaluating what you like and do not like and then doing you're own version or incorporating their ideas and strategies. To a certain degree we are all influenced by what we experience so playing in successful squads can improve your own game. Coming from a PR server with different settings and slightly different rules, I've had to adapt because those two factors affect the way the game can be played.

So yes, I agree with Double its never too late to learn from other SL's no matter how good you think you are.

  • 2 months later...

I would just like to thank WCCBadploy for taking me under his wing yesterday and yelling at me what to do ☺️

I am all about teamwork but I have only played against bots, only in bf2 and usually alone or with just one or two friends

Obviously the communication is overwhelming at first and I made the mistake of trying to act as SL the first time I logged in to the VG Coop server. Probably angering the CO and making my squads life miserable. At that point I wondered if 2 weeks with just bots in PR was enough for me to be worthy for a spot at VG.

But then I joined recon squad and learned more in 3 hours than all the time I spent playing PR and BF2 with bots combined!

So your idea works, WCCBadploy! Thank you and keep those commands coming!

And to other new players: read this thread and the server rules and then,

Lead, follow or get out of the way!

Welcome to the Community KayBee.

Great stuff there Matey.

You did a splendid job in the roles you chose. That's the first positive thing I noticed about you.

Your seeking to be involved in our community is another.

It is always a pleasure to play and work with other dedicated team players.

I hope like many of us, with the same disposition, you find your gaming home and roots here in the VG Universe.
