↑ So true -- I had TP-LINK (and will send it to BLuD if his other methods don't work) Let's be clear: @=VG= BLuDKLoT if you are planning on watching Netflix or just browsing the internet from bedroom, TP-LINK speeds would be sufficient. But if you're talking about setting up your gaming PC in that room via this signal, or even WiFi, I gotta say that it will not be sufficient for what we all do in PC gaming!! You'll have a shit time with lag, latency, and high ping due to the way PLS and WiFi can be interrupted by everything from noise due to high-draw home appliances or not-so-top-notch home wiring, even solar activity and weather. For PC Gaming, and this goes for everyone, the best experience is achieved with a hard line ethernet cable going from the gaming PC to the modem, preferably not even going through a router first, with all gaming traffic directed at the internal IP address of the Gaming PC for minimum latency and lag (port forwarding, not triggering). Can't stress that enough -- the reason we all can game on servers all over the world these days instead of being relegated to those game servers in our own region of the world is due to the high speeds we all enjoy through wired high speed internet connections. We have servers in USA (a private VG server running a cluster of ARK Survival Evolved hosted by =VG= Airbats, and our Falcon BMS Server) but our primary server is located in Germany (at a quarter of the cost a USA based-server would run us). They also have higher speeds and less congested traffic lines making it a perfect central location for our gaming server. But again, this only works well if we use the most stable and fastest speed internet our home can provide, at least 5Mbps upload and 10-20Mbps download speeds, and by using old, cheap or poorly configured routers, WiFi, PLS (TP-LINK style power line signal internet repeating), or god forbid DSL / Satellite internet, we further limit that up to and including the realm of shitty 2005 internet speeds not sufficient for this level of PC gaming we're all used to.

If this was Planetside 2, I might agree - those hovercraft in that game are far better suited to a mouse/keyboard style. But SQUAD had proper aircraft and choppers... and using PC game joysticks/etc. to control video game aircraft is older than you, Gaz. I mean that in the most kind way It is totally understandable that these things may not be implemented yet so long as they are "on the list" as it's a PC gaming standard that provides no exploitative edge against other players or in games in general. In Red Dead Redemption 2 Online, for example, players are separated into lobbies based on their control scheme because using an analog control stick with Auto-Aim settings ON vs. Mouse/Keyboard (manual aiming) for aiming a gun provides a considerable advantage over the mouse/keyboard user, and anytime you move your mouse (if you have controller plugged in with Auto-Aim ON) it temporarily turns off any auto-aim assistance. Obviously, it's not like SQUAD had a feature they removed, that was just an example of why it's of no good reason to not prioritize inclusion of controls for PC gamers with various gear of any kind (if I want to use a 3D Pro joystick and someone else wants to use a TM Warthog, it should make no difference to the gameplay, or user experience). Really hoping it's just a matter of time. Again, do they have a public roadmap or published goals? I feel bad offering uninformed opinions, I rarely censor my opinions and sometimes they are definitely lacking a proper base from which to form a more accurate opinion. I'm only human. The last thing I'd want to do by offering my opinions would be to cast shade at these awesome people trying to make their dream work. I just like to joke and talk shit sometimes. I mean, 4 years.... 4. years. But I understand it's a small team, an indie game, and that is totally okay. If I vent any frustration, it's just that -- if we all take a step back, what these folks have created is truly awesome and we should all be so fortunate to have a dream and see it through to a playable program with thousands and thousands in sales. Hats off to them, truly!

Yea, one year, I bought 50 feet of outdoor direct burial Cat 5 Ethernet cable and ran it out here, then I ran a second one so I can have my laptop online in case my PC breaks down, etc. A man can only tolerate so much bullshit. I will say that since I got this Modem that has a built in router and WiFi, it's way stronger than the cheapo-comcast modem, but was 4 hours of hell working with Comcast to install a 'user owned' modem instead of using the one they sent. but again, it don't reach everywherer

Probably not - it's more likely the modem. To many walls or a wet wall with piping can easily block WiFi. If it's a cheap rental modem from Comcast, or it's physical location is butt up against a dense joist or wet wall with water pipes, there can be nothing wrong with your PC but the modem itself. Back in 2017 I paid nearly $200 for an Arris modem with strong WiFi signal and 4 internet cable ports out the back so I could stop using a router and also get good modern WiFi broadcasting. But again, sometimes it's just a matter of putting the WiFi modem/router in a better location. I have a tiny house on the property of a larger house, and I can't get WiFi out here - I bit the bullet and bought a long ethernet cable and ran two hard lines out here. I feel for ya, pain in the ass WiFi is a pain in the ass.

Final note for future viewers -- FYSA it may very well be possible to fix a Windows 10 installation without reinstalling the OS - it's certainly worth a try when reinstalling the OS would be a far too painful process (I got an exciting PC upgrade coming and I am literally dreading reinstalling all the many programs, utilities, and etc. that I have installed over the past 5 years!!) from Gary at VoiceAttack: Try a system file scan to see if anything could be identified as out of sorts (assuming you are using Windows 10): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026529/windows-10-using-system-file-checker This is good to do from time to time - it's not always a clear picture, but if there's something low-hanging, it does a good job of picking it up.

Wait... it doesn't recognize an analog axis?! OMG - I'm floored by that. Do they have a public roadmap for development, or whatever? I can't believe there hasn't been enough outcry from the player base for something so basic, and I know a small team with a small budget is a factor - but these are like Day 1 things: make game work with keyboard, mouse, simple controllers, and maybe day 2 allow video and sound settings for various user environments ((or do not include vehicles that would require analog control such as aircraft, for example until the control setup was implemented.)) What I really don't understand is that the article linked is from a person wanting to set his vehicle bindings to a keyboard... like, how the heck do players control things if they can't even bind control keys? Maybe I missed something, busy working with the server and learning about configuration of this game, and constantly trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong here.... Just a small progress report - slow going as I'm busy with other things, but just got the server cleaned up enough to fit the ridiculously large sized Dedicated Server Files package for SQUAD - fucking 23GB. Gotta do some reading, something must be wrong with that - maybe they don't know how to distribute server files without user file textures, media files, etc.... Kinda pissed off after an hour of this BS, scrambling to erase files to make room when I saw the disk allocation drop to 19GB free after launching the steamcmd to DL the server files. Pricks. Okay, I feel better now. I'm sure they're not pricks, and there's some trick or reason to sending server files so fucking large. Again, pardon my french - you can't imagine what I just went through, the stress of worrying if our Dedi would drop off existence due to an accidental consumption of all available freespace. Time for a break. Will work on configuration later this afternoon, and other bits, and then do some tests. I suppose I better purchase the game myself and get it installed so I can test. Bills, games, PC parts. It's where my money goes edit: maybe Summer/Fall 2020 I might upgrade the VG Dedicated Server from this intel 7700 quad-core with HT to an 8700 hex-core with HT and a whopping 2TB of NVMe SSD's in RAID-0 and the same 64GB of DDR4 - would get access to Windows Server 2019, instead of the Windows Server 2012 R2 we're currently stuck with. We'll see - looks like the price per month would increase by $10-20, but might be worth it given the servers I'd like to be able to host (some rather CPU intensive like Space Engineers and potentially Stormworks)... we'll see as Summer approaches. Size on disk limits have been nagging me for awhile, was great at first, but now it's straight annoying to work around such small disk space on our dedicated server, and to try to cram everything onto shared CPU cores instead of dedicated server cores like how we run PR COOP (has it's own 2 cores, no other VG servers/processes using those two, and only uses 20% of them)

Very good deal on that SSD, unfortunately not looking for any SSD's at current (not SATA anyway). If I was, I'd have gotten the Samsung 1TB's that were on sale for $90 this past Black Friday. Best time of year for certain parts in USA! I have a bunch of very useful SATA SSD's already; a couple 120GB's in RAID-0, a 250GB, and a 500GB - but gonna move up to the NVMe standard for this next build. Will be at least 2 weeks before I do any purchasing, so plenty of time for consideration.

Not sure what could have happened to your forum account, one of the cool things about the VG website migrations over the years is that we seem to have been able to pull all old users. @Golden I might have found your problem, for real this time. ...and funny enough, my first joke response was actually the correct answer, believe it or not. When you play PR, or other older games, are you restarting your computer to disable a number of those CPU cores on your 9980XE before booting into Windows to play PR? Because that would be the route to try if you experience a lack of performance or loss of FPS contrary to the three extreme graphics cards you are running. At the very least, this is a route to explore for more information for odd and rare issues experienced in PC gaming with an HEDT processor such as the one you have. You might want to monitor core usage and thermals per core during PR COOP gameplay so you can see what is happening when you experience these issues. I'm more than certain this is the path to investigate. You're also running an OC and that would be something to disable for a long period to see if it affects the issue. Really hope it helps.

If I spent the same amount of money on a Ryzen 9 3900X system, tweaked a few things, I could end up with a crazy large amount of storage for my projects, with a full size backup drive (8TB at 5400RPM) just for peace of mind... Red Dead Redemption 2 + GTA:V take up around 250GB... ARK Survival Evolved + ATLAS take up another 300GB, Arma 3 and DCS World add another 100GB, still haven't really gotten sick of Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War and play them from time to time (together a combined 165GB easy), and my Skyrim (with over 200 mods) at 86GB, and about the same same with my modded Fallout 4 start getting darn close to a terabyte for titles I'd like to stop using on my aging and slow as hell 5400RPM HDD, or even trying to fit a few on my 5 year old 500GB Sata SSD. (edit: also 250GB of Oculus VR titles) You say loading times are not that different, but I've seen the real world comparisons in a number of titles I play on various drives and I'm happy to toss a little money at saving 30 seconds here or there, sometimes much less. I know it's not gonna be like night and day, just another modest improvement. Looking at $140 a month for 15 months, luckily at 0% interest. Still not ready to do that, still checking out stuff. That list of decent Ryzen motherboards is helpful, running through them, checking out user manuals, reviews, etc. Thanks again

Roger that. I've done that before ... bought half the RAM to start, complete the set down the road. The 2x 500GB's are actually for the crazy value they currently have, and for a steam library (5 of the games I play most often can fill up one of them easy, could use the other 500GB m.2 for the rest of the library of 5-30GB games of less crazy size) and mostly for those that have long load times. The little crap games that really don't care can go anywhere. I'm not insane, just considering a different level of storage than I've ever had. edit: Also a few of the games I play with >200 mods, i.e. City Skylines, KSP, maybe others in the future, fill up my current 16GB of RAM to the point of low overhead and having to limit the active mods I use, limit multi-tasking operations (recording/streaming while playing, etc.). That's the reason I'd go for slower timings overall for higher capacity RAM in this case. Cheers for the suggestions!

...aaand I already feel like some kind of Intel fanboy for even writing what I did above... having re-read it, it just feels wrong knowing that the 3900X Ryzen is not only $70-90 cheaper than the i9 9900KF, but in most tasks 20-30% faster (or more) than it's Intel counterpart. This is why it's gonna be a bit before I pull the trigger on this, been mocking up builds since last Halloween, and trying to push myself to a decision, but it's hell of a lot of money no matter how you slice that cake, and I certainly don't want to have wasted my money on something I could have chosen more wisely in the build like Ryzen 3900X instead of the 9900KF. More research, more input, more time needed.

I have a comparable AMD build in Excel... believe it or not, it about equals out in that the feature-similar Motherboard for Ryzen that i'd want is about $70-90 more than this Z390, where the comparable Ryzen CPU is $70-100 less than the i9 9900KF... Since I'm more familiar with Intel particularly with regards to technical features I'm used to even down to not having to learn new methods for overclocking, I decided to "go with what I know" since the price difference wasn't as large as some YT vids or other builds would show. If anyone has any good Motherboard recommendations for Ryzen, I'd love to look at them. It's not "essential" to have 3x M.2 slots (even the 9900KF has 24 PCIe lanes, more than enough to run my GFX card at 16x along with a controller like Golden uses for 4th M.2), but I'd very much like it for the next ~5+ years of use. Using all 3 on the Ultra version of the MoBo listed negates 3 of the 6 SATA ports, dropping the additional storage to 3 drives max - will use them for the 8TB and 4TB slow HDD's (5400RPM) and my old 500GB Samsung EVO SSD. Was gonna put the OS on the 1TB M.2 and use the other two for Steam Libraries and swap folders/work flow folders to keep down throughput for rendering projects, etc. My own fault if I take a monetary hit going Intel v. AMD, there's a few things I want, and it's not Enthusiast level but higher up the mid-level nonetheless. If I was going to build a system like the one I have now, a lower-mid level gaming system, I'd save loads by going Ryzen. But I'm shooting for the upper tier of the Mid level now, just to the edge of the start of Enthusiast, and I'm not seeing much price difference here Intel v. Ryzen. For general reference, Golden's system would fall squarely in the Upper-Mid level of the highest level of gaming PC's (Enthusiast grade), where one of the only things between his system and the High level Enthusiast would be (wasted) money spent on an Intel i9 10980XE (barely any performance gain over Golden's Intel i9 9980XE) or Intel W-3175X at nearly twice the price, or perhaps the AMD TR 3960X or 3990X, also quite a bit higher or double the price. My last system (current system when it had GTX 970 SSC) is a lower-level Mid Tier gaming PC. Adding this 2070S takes so much load off the CPU for 3D gaming that it is now essentially mid-level Mid Tier but being CPU bound, can't keep up with certain modern compute tasks and falls short in a number of workstation and 3D gaming tasks despite the Haswell i5's excellent single-core performance (especially with my 4.2GHz/core overclock). Any suggestions or recommendations are very much appreciated!!! Thanks for the input guys! @=VG= Kavelenko That would be DCS, it's easy to miss (only noted in part of the forum category) - no worries at all, man! (text sucks - I'm not being sarcastic, I missed it myself at first! didn't want you to read that wrong) Great for small little missions, models most systems in the F/A-18 well. DCS is pretty much the TE's from BMS, and it has a mission builder like how you can make missions in Arma 3 - some are pretty cool, and there's plenty available to just download and try out with a few friends. Iffn and I used to fly around in the Op. Bactria mission (in Warthogs, though). Very cool stuff, very hi-fidelity graphics. Gotta note that we gotta get you @=VG= keed into the F-16 someday, too, cuz there's nothing like taking part in a 24/7 persistent virtual war over the scale of a country the size of Korea (and part of China) spanning several weeks in real time. Rock on with your Hornet in DCS and have a blast!! I bought and learned the A-10C in DCS, and would have to completely re-train before I jumped back in the cockpit, right down to setting up all the controls and display extraction for the program itself, otherwise I'd find a way to join you.
