NTF_Medic Posted February 20, 2012 at 08:10 PM Report Share Posted February 20, 2012 at 08:10 PM I was thinking of buying a joystick to use for flying in A2.I mainly fly choppers, but from time to time I fly A10.Anyone using stick? And what stick would you recomend?
PITN Posted February 20, 2012 at 08:38 PM Report Share Posted February 20, 2012 at 08:38 PM For arma 2 I use the mouse for both fixed wing and rotary. For some reason I get a faster response time than with my fancy joystick.
=VG= Calv Posted February 20, 2012 at 08:45 PM Report Share Posted February 20, 2012 at 08:45 PM I'd have to agree, I have a nice HOTAS setup but in A2 using the keyboard and mouse seems much easier.Joystick throttles seem to lack the "accuracy" for flying and landing choppers I always found myself setting down too hard, much easier using keyboard. =VG= SemlerPDX Posted February 21, 2012 at 06:40 PM Report Share Posted February 21, 2012 at 06:40 PM I have used both for these games since Battlefield 1942 through Project Reality, and now Arma 2. The thing about the conversion from games past using a flight stick to using one in Arma 2 is like night and day.I found it most difficult to learn how to fly large helicopters with the stick. Mostly because I came from a past of using games like BF2 and PR with high in-game flight stick sensitivity. My advice is to get what you can afford. The X52 series won't wear out on you as it doesn't use a potentiometer, hence the price - plus it's ready for a flight sim with all it's buttons.I use the Saitek Cyborg X and it has a number of buttons, all of which I use. It's around $40 depending on your area.Mainly, the thing to remember is - if you first fly a MH-J6 or AH-J6, then move up as you learn, HUEY, Blackhawk, and then eventually, Chinook, you will be able to fly them with a fun and immersive feel that doesn't make you any less capable of a pilot than a WSAD and Mouse controls setup. NTF_Medic Posted February 22, 2012 at 08:48 AM Author Report Share Posted February 22, 2012 at 08:48 AM Cool. How's the throttle sensitivety on the stick? Good enough or use throttle on kb?The x52 costs around 250usd over here ;) X around 50Btw the flying itself works fine with KB, especially in the Huey, low altitiude tactical flying. But speed reduction and landings has massiv space for improvment
=VG= SemlerPDX Posted February 22, 2012 at 10:01 AM Report Share Posted February 22, 2012 at 10:01 AM Throttle is the first reason I bought one. It is perfect, and X52 is even better.
NTF_Medic Posted February 22, 2012 at 10:24 AM Author Report Share Posted February 22, 2012 at 10:24 AM Since I don't fly sim anymore, the X52 is too much money, mrs will kill me slowly... Ordering the CyborgThx for the input.. just hope the config is eaysy as I'm not a "nerd" ;)
