I encourage anyone else to add their experience in this thread.Assuming you want to make gaming videos (all but the first step apply for general editing):1. Buy FRAPS. There are several recording programs out there, but FRAPS is the best in terms of ease of use and overall performance. You can use the demo version for free, but it limits you to 30 second clips at one time and leaves a FRAPS watermark at the top of each video. Just bite the bullet and pay for the full version. It's worth it.2. Video editing software: I use Sony Vegas 10 (version 10.0c as I type this). You can get a "free"/"SEVERELY discounted" version by using a keygen. I would upload the keygen, but I do not want to get BLud or myself in trouble since they are technically illegal. All I can recommend is do a YouTube search for "Sony Vegas 10 keygen" and you'll find hundreds/thousands of video explaining how to get it for free (mind you a $600+ USD program). In a nutshell, you 1) download the latest Sony keygen 2) download Sony Vegas 10 demo from the Sony website 3) install SV10 demo 4) run the keygen. apply the keys and patch... and you're done! No degradation over time, no viruses, no bugs, works perfect. I have been doing this for over a year without any problems. Sony Vegas 10 is very intuitive, has great stock effects, and renders quite well. And I am probably only using 20-30% of it's full potential!Windows Movie Maker (I believe it comes with Windows?) is a simple editor for those that just want to slap together something. Nothing fancy, but a good way to try your editing skills.Adobe Premiere is very good as well in terms of render output, but is a pain to learn. The interface is not very intuitive even after I spent hours reading the manual. 3. Editing style? Well that's the million dollar question. I am far from the artistic, creative type. The videos that I have created generating lots of views were inspired by others. I just take a little bit from here and there, play with the editor, effects, and sound. If you're serious about editing, it's not an overnight process. There is a lot of patience required. The F-4 vid took nearly 1 month to make: flying, recording, editing, deleting, rinse and repeat (2 or more hours a day/night). If you have any experience with Photoshop then you should be able to pick up After Effects and start cranking out videos. The same principles apply regardless of which ever video editing program you choose to use.My biggest inspiration for switching over to AE is this mans work. This is all done in AE and is not really that difficult to learn how to do (just takes time). Another reason I switched to AE is because is manages the "projects" media files much more efficiently than Vegas.But just remember what Chaz said if you plan on producing some really top quality work then be prepared to dumps loads of time into it.Anyway enjoy these videos (I know they are console vids, but the editing work is the best that I have seen regardless): Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
