ARMA 2 problems..

ok so the main problem is that everytime i try to find ARMA 2 servers it gives none. I've tried to Google the problem but every tip i get is just another disappointment, my game is on CD so no steam problems also i got it free from one of my buddies (legitimate), I'm propably going to buy it from STEAM anyway but any help would be appriciated.

Obvious question first: You have updated to the latest patch?
What version of Arma is it? ARMA2, OA or Combined Ops?
I assume you have tried adding and removing all the filters in the search settings?

One possible thing you could try is downloading sixupdater http://www.six-updater.net/p/download.html and using the server browser in there to see if that can find any. Would allow you to bypass the ingame server browser.

If you try and join a server directly (ip address) does it work?

Right click on ARMA 2 desktop icon or start menu launch. Select Run as administrator. Launch game.

You are trying to find arma games through the ingame multiplayer browser?
It sometimes changes to lan not internet hence not showing you any servers, but I'm guessing that's too obvious.

Multiplayer menu - Remote - Address: 217.146.93.114
Port: 2302
This should get you directly into VG server.

Are you using a firewall or router? Maybe an anti-virus program or firewall program?

Calv - yes it's updated.

Calv - game is just ARMA II not OA etc.

Calv - I've tried filters, no help.

Chaz - I ran it as Admin, no help.

Outlanders/Savage - tried joining with ip, no help.

Jager - I tried in-game +Garena, no help.

PITN - I tried switching Firewall + anti-virus off, no help.

Calv/Savage - this sixupdater sounds interesting, ill try to get it up with you when possible.

Is your firewall software or hardware?

Are you using a router?

If software. Turn it off.
If hardware, verify that the ports for arma are open or being forwarded.

If you have Norton or one of those other carpola software firewalls, they leave restrictions in your registry even if you uninstall them. just fyi

maybe i should just buy it? even tough i got that game lawfully, free but lawfully.

Well if you do end up buying it make sure you get Arma2 - Combined Ops (Arma2 plus OA)

If the game works you should be able to manually connect to a server.
If you can't manually connect then something is blocking the program. Buying a new proram won't fix it.
How did you come buy the copy that you have?

For some reason, I thought OA was a requirement to join our servers. Not just ArmA 2. Is this a detail we are overlooking or am I just blowing smoke? !drag

OA is the requirement, its just set up to use a few of the resources from normal ArmA II ((weapons)),
