  1. I remember several people (including myself) having similar problems with the 32bit version, which at best can use ~3.4GB of memory.
You mentioned you only have 4GB of RAM and you're running Win10. I suspect you simply run out of memory at some point, in which case you should have an "access violation" (or similar) near the end of the log file.

BMS is temperamental, but there are a few things you can try:
    - close all software you don't need (firefox, media players, etc.)
    - minimize TrackIR to the tray (not just the task bar, should also give you a few extra FPS)
    - restart BMS after each flight (always do that!..no matter how tedious it is. Remember to SAVE your campaign when offline)
    - avoid loading too much data (ie. only recon your target area once, don't look at 3D models in the tactical ref...)
    - don't use the ACMI / flight recorder
    - don't fly missions that take you too far away from your airport

With these precautions in mind the most common crash we had was on the debrief screen and even that wasn't too frequent.

  2. That's kinda disappointing, but given that BMS has always been a niche here and activity on the relevant forum is scarce, I was expecting it. Would have loved to be pleasantly surprised though.

I have played Bactria before and it's an excellent mission, but I can't stand shooting at truck mounted ZSU-23-2s anymore. In the Ka-50 I'll even ignore those guys until I'm down to rockets or guns, just to get some excitement out of DCS....I've become pretty good at it by now.

Well then, my search continues, at least until next month when the 2.5 update will be too much for my GPU to handle anyways.

I wish I was into cars, then things would be a whole lot easier.

  3. Soooooooooo...

...I've been playing DCS for a while now and I've been doing basically the same thing as in BMS: cooperative PvE stuff, 'just' without the dynamic campaign in the back. Short question is: who else is into that sort of thing?

Coming from BMS, I can't help but feel the server landscape is barren, unless you play PvP, which isn't my thing. It's not like there is no 'content', but 50% of it is just complete waste of time training "missions". You take off right next to the targets, units are just 'plopped down' instead of placed with logic, no flightplans/waypoints, rarely do you see SAMs with longer range than an Sa-9 and still people die left and right.
    It's tragic, yet comical.
There are exceptions, but they are far in between, so I thought I'd look for some more reliable pilots here ;)

I'm competent in the Hog, Harrier, Flanker (if it counts) and a god in the Ka-50.

Discord seems the place to be these days, already in touch with a few people there, but their groups don't seem to be the most active/reliable.

    So..?

    ps.: hi :)

  4. When not roaming the local woods, I spent my childhood between a respectable amount of Lego, scale models and an Atari ST1040.

I got a strong connection with 8-bit music and I like applying tricks from the old days to new music. How could something like this not leave an ever lasting impression on you? ;)
If people tell me I got an overly aggressive retro OST vibe going on, I'm not at all surprised. If anything, I'm glad I'm not the only one waiting for that one kick ass game deserving such a soundtrack (Aquanox 3? Descent 4? The next best mech game?) :D

"Not my cup of tea" ... no worries. It does a good job at pleasing me and pleasing anybody else is 'just' a welcome bonus. Thx for your endurance though ;)

I christened my brand new head phones with your song "Fones are Phunny"

1st: FINALLY a new headset! ;) Got mine replaced with no hassle, even got 1.50 back in return ^^
2nd: It's actually a reference to "Rocko's modern life". In episode S3E10 "Wacky Deli" Heffer says "Telephones are funny" and somewhere else they visit an animation studio. There, dozens of people draw one single telephone from every angle. I don't know what it is, but telephones really seem to be funny in the mind of somebody.
The main synth reminded me of a telephone, so I added a real telephone sample and gave it it's new name.
3rd: that's what I mean by "Could tell you more about the songs, but (...)"
4th: if this headset is only remotely good, that song must have been .... an experience.

  5. "And now for something completely different"

I've hinted at it already, but I'm doing a musician type thingy. Currently I'm going through the process of sorting my project folder and uploading anything remotely valuable to my Dropbox account.
It's rough in every way and very much WIP. Coming up with ideas is easy, polishing things not so. I also suck big time at mastering, so if you got an EQ handy you might need to use it. Some tracks are best listened to on headphones. You have been warned!

    Schaaper Mike WIP @ Dropbox

Could tell you more about the songs, but I don't think anybody really cares :music:

  6. I'm not a big fan of Win 10 at the moment and you're running it in a virtual machine ... if I'm getting this last part right. That sounds a bit fishy and BMS is already very temperamental.

Not sure how many Apple experts we have around here, you might have to check somewhere else for help with compatibly. Luckily BMS still only uses DX9.
In the mean time, if you have a dual boot system or can arrange that, that might be a way around it for now.

Waiting patiently for the screenshot, maybe it's revealing.

  7. Bollocks!
Sry, now I know what you're talking about. I was referring to the BMS setup. I was just assuming there was no tinkering AFTER the installation, because I know not to do that because of problems like this ;))
Alright, we're getting 'mildly off topic' here and that's a lot of text for such a simple problem :D

TL:DR Here are a few questions:

    1. When did this start happening to you?
    2. Have you just recently changed anything such as game updates, OS updates, etc.  ?
    3. Are you running the most recent version of BMS (currently 4.33.3)?
    4. Does this problem only happen online on our server, or also when you fly offline on your PC?

    5. Did you install any mods?
    6. Tell us anything else you could think off
    7. Remember the scrrenshot

Yes, this is a second campaign running for about 45 minutes. We exchanged a few more lines where he insisted on having lost his internet connection several days ago before he eventually disconnected silently.
Connecting to a server takes 5 clicks: comms/online, select server, connect, OK and IVC tabs you back to the desktop in between. Why would you do all that without internet access and how can you get through all these steps successfully and still think you're offline?

When the server acts strange again, just remember Adams and all the people who don't get it despite the rules and guides available. BMS has enough problems when handled properly.

  9. Hi Minrah! Long time no see o/

Both IVC checkboxes in BMS are ticked and you entered the server IP into the IVC dedicated field?

It might be necessary to start BMS as admin, so it has the permission to launch and communicate with the IVC client exe.

In my case I had to run the client as admin first, then launch BMS as admin (32bit exe, not the launcher). Thx Windows.
On the plus side, this get's rid of BMS 'tabbing out' when it starts IVC. Sometimes BMS refuses to tab back in.

That's about everything there is to the IVC client. Hope it helps.

I've been getting empty error messages upon connecting to IVC. The window doesn't respond, but comms work fine through BMS. I'm not complaining.

Graphics show the situation day by day from the start of the campaign, agreed it is not detailed but a rough idea.

At first glance I couldn't find any massive dip on the Blue side.
I remember Asp was indirectly involved in the destruction of the bridges north of Seoul. This usually funnels all DPRK forces over one bridge to the east, a few nautical behind the DMZ. If CAS went wrong there, nobody would have stopped the Zerg-rush towards Osan and beyond. I noticed an alarming lack of ROK tank battalions last week as well.
I'll just assume that's what happens ... or there was just so little player participation ... but I really don't believe the latter.

I am not certain I'd know what to look for, but I'm happy to make those files public for anyone to look at if they would like: BMS Server Autosave Files Feb2017

F-16C Blk.40 or F-16C Blk.52, 2 or 3 ship, loaded with JSOWs, tasked with AI or CAS :D
JSTARS in the last autosave should show when the break through occurred, then it's looking at some other saves from around that time.

Does anybody want to build an analyse tool for that? Basically Mission Commander with a timeline?

Anyways, took off around 0700 local, 2-ship with AI heading out to do some SEAD over Haeju. Flying out of Kunsan, active 36, wingman go stuck on the taxi. I was tabbed out in between (setting up playlist quick), might have caused it. Loadout was 2xAGM88, 4xCBU87 CEM, 2x120, 2xHeat, ECM. Met up with Canteen, took about 4000lbs and had a smooth ingress.
Using only the WPN page, the first Magnum didn't find it's pre-planned target. The second one shot in HAS connected with a FanSong to the north east.
Turned out, Haeju airbase was only defended by a AAA battalion. I made 4 quick mark points to do as much damage before any scramblers could arrive. The first 2 bombs were lofted in CCRP, 3rd bomb in CCIP, 4th bomb didn't come off, probably due to over-G. AD: 0.5s, BA: 1550
Diverted to Seosan for fuel reasons and called it a flight.

  11. Intel doesn't give any details I'm afraid. You'd need to look at a lot of autosaves side by side to see what happened exactly.

IIRC somebody wasn't getting AWACS calls last week when I had a few flights, indicating Kadena was down already. This happened before even without friendly fire. You can't win a war without supplies.
DPRK on the other hand still has a lot of mostly untouched war production and has captured even more in South Korea.

If A-10s were inactive (they were not a week ago) then probably nobody took care of the engineers, fixing up all the airfields etc.

BMS simulates economy and the problems you describe are most likely a consequence of that. We may never know what tipped the odds in DPRKs favor exactly.

And you'll play as the medic against tanks?

No, because that's not my job. My job is healing the guy with the AT launcher that exposes himself to take the shot, if needed. The basics of cooperative play are that simple. This should be the way to success, not loading up like a 1-man army.

Unrestricted medics are very popular because if you suck (and let's be honest, a lot of people do) you can just heal yourself, switch back to your 'super-weapon' of choice and continue until luck runs out. Give them scopes, but limit to assault rifles (no GL) so there is a trade off to be made.

And speaking of thermal vision: I'd get rid of that as well. No skill involved spotting anything with them.

  13. I heard of a friendly fire incident involving JSOWs, but no details on what was hit. But if DPRK made it through somewhere it's possible the situation snowballed from there. Osan's A-10s were no longer on the frontline, blue SAMs on the DMZ overrun ...

    Looks pretty bad right now.

  14. - limit active zones to 1 or 2 (not enough players to do more anyways)
    - clean up players who try to activate more AOs regardless (teleport to base + message, kick when repeated)
    - Only allow capping of neighboring zones similar to AAS (avoids passing through another AO and activating it/triggering the check above)
    - limit vehicles to 1 or 2 per player and despawn the oldest when exceeded
    - limit AI number per player (this isn't single player after all)
    - force using class specific gear (no more sniping medics everywhere)
    - disallow VR gear ('unlimited' space)
    - disallow the ridiculously overpowered LMG

It's gonna piss some people off, but there is always AhoyWorld.
Your opinion might vary but this is Arma, not CoD kiddy edition.

I find the campaign too unbalanced. I agree that earlier versions were too favorable for the blue forces but now it is the extreme opposite.

Was anything changed in the last few weeks? Didn't fly as much but observed the BMS topics a bit, don't recall anything regarding balancing related changes. Might have missed it.

  16. Being surprised somebody cares about the VG A3 servers I jumped on Altis Liberation really quickly.

A couple of guys were asking for help at Kavala. I took the most populated spawn, jumped into a heli about to take off and the pilot flew somewhere completely else, activating more objectives and being a bad pilot got shot down.
Basically 2 guys play as intended while the rest just uses the server as a sandbox.

People don't even understand how Invade & Annex works, so I don't see how any amount of scripting could fix that.

  17. It happened to me at Seosan before, can't tell you which RW.
Don't know about Osan or Kangnung, haven't taken a lot of AI with me from those. Osan specifically because it's a maze an AI takes a quiet long route.

Remember how the VG server never hosts anything in 3D (for performance reasons). The server doesn't load the 3D world, no terrain, no planes, no airfields and no waypoints for taxiways. It doesn't need to because it's all done on the client side. So, if this is a problem with the 'taxi path', you'd see it in single player, too.
Kunsan is host to a lot of training missions (with some AI traffic for show) and Seosan is very close to the DMZ. A lot of players would fly out of those and quickly discover the AI 'taxi path' issue, which then should be quiet easy to fix.
Maybe it actually happens in single player and just hasn't been fixed yet. I really don't know.

We did see some 'bugfixes' when we put the server into 3D a while ago. It was a good example of why hosting from the map "isn't supported", so I'm inclined to blame it on that. Incentive to get more people to play BMS I guess.

  18. DLink doesn't work on the ground, so I assume he never took off.

Where did you last see him? Did he make it to the runway and hold short?
Last patch there was a bug with wingmen stopping on the taxi way for no good reason.

Finding the cause for the callsigns was gold. Thanks Kaos.
