Good to have you back in the AF world!

Jex LAN_WROTE ...
Columns can stretch in excess of 7000M long so a ripple of 12 rockeyes at 300m will only cover half it's length. If you go for 600m you may loose on area effect.
Columns are normally setup into groups of 3 like so
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
That's actually pretty much what they look like in game from high up lol.
Rippling off all 12 at once is by far the safest option but probably won't get you as many kills. Going for single bombs as you dive down on each group of 3 (correct for lead if it's moving) will give you better results (you can get 30 kills this way with rockeye's) but you put yourself in harms way for ground fire and SAM's. Set your chaff/flares to dispense about 20, maybe 2 a second with a seconds interval. You're only doing one pass anyway. Basically you want them firing out for the length of time your in the SAM threat area.
Remember as soon as you hit them, they'll scatter so make sure you set your attack run up good, flying along the column in the direction it is travelling.
CBU's have all different uses. 12 Rockeye's is fine for armoured columns but check the tac ref and experiemnt with them.
Jex :)
Great info! Still waiting for Bones to help me with setting up my chaff/flare programs.!whistle -
I gotcha. Makes sense. But you would agree that its better to use the cluster munition if its a column of targets right? Also, do youknow what the average length of one of those columns? When you going to fly? Haven't seen you on in awhile.
-
What do you do if you have a bunch of GMT that are scattered about? Still "pair" or one? Seems like you would go thru the bomb load pretty quickly like that.
-
Nevermind... Got it! So Bones, why always in pairs? Or is that just in maybe CCRP? And thanks by the way! You the man!

I am assuming that you need excel to view the file?

I am trying to figure out the best setup for rockeyes/CBUs. I normally set the burst at about 1300-3000 depending on drop height. Anyone have any input on this/suggestions? Also, what kind of ripple distance? It seems that even when I set it between 175ft- 300ft, I still can't get the whole column. Anyone know on average what the column distance is or what the burst ration is on the clusters? For instance... If I set the burst at 1500ft, what kind of ground coverage am I going to get?

Might shoot Tank a PM about the res issuse. I know he uses a 32" tv and says its amazing. He may be able to help ya out there. Not sure about the other stuff.

So I met up with Bones tonight and he walked me through all kinds of stuff; from getting the server set up to inflight instruction. It was alot of fun!! I got my first A-A kill, tho I made a great Rookie first mistake! The whole mission I couldn't get my damn Mav's to launch! Then, on the way back Webbs and I run into a MIG 21. So I try to hit him with my AIM120. No launch! Bones comes over the come... "hey, you do have your master arm on right?" WOW!! Can ya get any more rook than that!?! So I flip the switch, get a good lock, and splash one MIG. Then on my final approach I can't bleed off enough speed so I abort and swing around for another try. I have to delcare an emergency due to low fuel. (About 800lbs by now). As I come in about to touch down I notice an AI 16 siting there ready to take off! I make it just above him, touch down and start braking. Get down to about 80 knts and WHAM!! Guess who?? Old AI decides he's going to just take off and slams right into me. LOL!! What a first mission!! It was great and can't wait to get at it again!!! Thanks again Bones and Webster for all your help!!

ALL RIGHT! I got everything all set up thanks to all the Help that Bones gave me. I am on my way!

Got the TS3 server now, but still getting timed out on the MP server. Theres no place to enter a pw either. Sorry, I don't mean to be a post whore, just normally play online with th comp.
-
So, I got everything downloaded, but every time I go in the MP and try to log into the server, it always gets timed out. I made sure I was in Balkins 2005. I still can't find the TS3 server either.

Chaz LAN_WROTE ...
Welcome!
I'm sure you are patched to v1.0.13. Install Skunkworks v2 if you haven't already.. It is stickied at the top of this subforum. VG has a dedicated AF server. Join Teamspeak and hop in the server!
I am downloading it now. What is it exactly? Also, I can't seem to find the server in the server list in TS3. -

So I have been playing AF now for alittle over a month now and have fallen in love with the game. I have done a full campagin on simplified avionics and did ok I guess. I am wanting to move on to realistic but am having trouble grasping it. To put it simply, I am getting seriously worked in the training missions. I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some insight to it. I have been going over the manual but since its only a pdf file, its hard to read it, then load up the game and try to duplicate what I have read. I am a much better learner when I am showed through a video or coached. I am using CH Pro stick, throttle and pedals. Thanks in advance for any help. I really want to get into the game. Have always loved flight sims.

Great vids! I noticed during alot of thier AG, they were slow. 250 knots or so.
After watching those vids again, I realized that the footage that you are referring to has got to be an A-10, as it is the exact HUD symbology found in DCS-A10C. Either someone screwed up or they did not have enough F-16 footage!
Ah... That would make sense. I wouldn't know that tho, not a DCS guru yet!!crazy
