I have a newish PC, came with Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently switched to Ubuntu 10.04 because of the issues it had. (I will admit to be a 'geek tinkerer, and could probably patch the bios or something... ) Windows 7 on my acer AMD Phenom II x4 box started hanging on login. Before things went south with Win7, I was going to upgrade to Win7 Pro or Ultimate so that I could take advantage of the "XP Mode" for games (i.e. NeverwinterNights and Assassins Creed if I recall right) - without the upgrade I had little luck with non Win7 games. Hope this helps.
