alright i have a 32bit windows but i want to upgrade to a 64bit windows is it possible to just upgrade it or do i have to do a clean install of my windows?

You can use the Upgrade option during Windows 7 installation, which preserves your files, settings, and programs, only if you're currently running a 32-bit version of Windows Vista and you want to upgrade to the 32-bit version of Windows 7. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows 7

Then you will need to wipe / reinstall (backup first of course). You may run into some compatibility issues with the 64bit version and older software titles - FYI

Do you have > 4GB of RAM in your PC?

i have 4gb ram on my pc but the reason im installing a new version is that mine is one of the first releases of win7 lol

Yeah best bet is to backup everything and do a clean install of Win7 64bit.
